I recently stumbled across the following pic, & have been combing the web trying to identify the Dash Mount featured below the vent to the left of the steering wheel?
I think the bracket is holding a Satellite display for a Dension DMP3 HDD-based MP3 player, which I have also...
Lastly, I gather the MINI belongs to Randy from M7, but I've had no real luck contacting him to confirm

Come on bud , I'm the easiest guy to find on here LOL
Seriously though you have correctly identified the unit and I assume you are looking to make a bracket. I just used a piece of stock aluminum , I think no thicker that 1/8 ( thinner is better ) and bent it to fit. I used some scrap vinyl to cover it and to attach used some good servo double stick tape from the radio control car world. I attached the bottom of the bracket to the top edge of the drop down panel under the steering wheel so it stays attached when you lower it for any reason. If this answers your questions , great but if not give me a call any time between 10 am and 11 pm pst seven days a week.
Thanks for the explanation Randy, it makes absolute sense & is a great guide for me to set about making my own.
I didn't know what your handle was on NAM [although in retrospect it was in the photobucket image URL], & after finding your original thread on M|U was waiting for my account to be validated so I could reply... either way I've found you now
