I just use the K&N cleaning kit available at most auto parts stores. Should include a spray cleaner and spray oil. The kit is made to clean the K&N renewable filters. I managed two cleanings out of one kit.
The K&N system IS NOT designed for the foam filters. Use a system like the UNI filter one. Can be found in just about every motorcycle dealer/parts shop.
Hmmm. Seems to work fine. No degredation and no pulling of seams. Since I've finished the kit I'll look for another next time. While the oil is a bit greasier, letting it sit for awhile in the sun seemed to make it tackier. I'll go with ScottimBend's recommendation Jonwalks. You can get it online at Outmotoring.com and numerous other places if you can't find it locally.
Yup, different oil for foam filters. UNI actually makes the ALTA filters. If you get another type of foam filter oil, say for a bike or quad, be careful of the color of the oil. That red alta filter turns a real funky dk purple with BelRay blue racing oil on it! But it washes out
I keep two filters, one on the car and one clean & oiled in the tool box. Lets me give the one being cleaned plenty of time to dry before being re-oiled. Check with Waylon, he may have a spare or two left from the last group buy on them.
