OBC retro question - OEM stock in older car

If i replace the light stalk in my 2002 CooperS, with an 06 Stalk that has the OBC button on it, what all would i need to do to make it 'work' with the OBC?

Ive seen many retro fit howtos which show running a wire from the speedo to an aftermarket button and having to go to the dealer to 'turn it on' and then it all works.

With the 06 stalk, would it simply be a matter of 'turning it on' at the dealer to make it work? Or is there additional wiring which would be needed to make the button on the stock work?

Or will this stock even work in my car? Are the stocks unchanged from 02-06?

Thanks!
