That would be great if you could post the how-to. The ebrake boot is already off (made a new leather one to replace the stock vinyl) I want to remove the handle itself and cover that in leather too.

Well seeing as no body else responded I'll go get some photos. I swapped out the silver for a chrome handle so it would match the shift knob, the tip broke so it's been half silver half chrome for a while. I'll fix it and post the pictures in a few minutes.

Okay there are 6 tabs squeeze in and lift out the base of the boot, then cut the zip ties and slide the boot up and off.

as for the handle itself, I usde a small screwdriver and pushed the side tab off the pice closet to the button in and removed that section then pull the bake as far up as possilbe

there are two tabs that need to be depressed a small screwdriver can help with this as well, tonight I couldn't get them to budge and ended up pulling the whole thingstraight up by accudent, I broke off some of the guide tabs, but on reassebly I didn't hurt anything that will interfere with function. Also a screw driver and a little leverage and the plastic with the leather pattern will slide off at this stage, so you can do a direct replacement with the leather.

Note the sperated piece on the seat.

Assembly is pretty much opposite of install.

Hope this helps, any questions and I'll do what I can to answer.

I've taken the handle off when I installed a leather e-brake boot. I used the instructions at OutMotoring.com: http://outmotoring.com/How_to_ebrake_boot.htm. motor on's photos and instructions are also very good.

I replaced the boot on mine from the vinyl one to a leather one when I first got my MINI. It is really easy, it took me about 5 minutes to change mine out. I have a pictogram on how to do it. Let me see if I can find it and I will post as soon as I can find it.

If I remember correctly, the metal ring twists off and the handle then slides off...but I am remembering from 3 years ago...I have a hard enough time remembering what I had for breakfast today.

Let me know if you find the pictogram. The MINI service advisor quoted an absurd figure to replace the worn boot with an OEM replacement, also claiming that 9 times out of ten that the plastic handle would break during the process and require replacement as well. I decided to go with a leather boot as well and do it myself, but would like to avoid the purchase of a new plastic handle.
