Rear bumper trim

I was just wondering if the '05 rear bumper lower trim is interchangeable with the '02 MC rear bumper lower trim. This is the black part that is right above the exhaust, attached to the bumper.

Here is a sample pic of the '02 trim:

And I want to swap it to the '05 (07/2004 and up) trim:

'07/2004 and up trim: Part# 51127127962
'02 trim: Part# 51126800209

Link:Its the part no.1 in the picture.

Anyone done this? I'm guessing (hoping) it would just be a direct swap or at the most maybe I need the left and right connecting trim parts. Any info is appreciated.

I swapped out the rear bumper on my 05 Cooper with a MCS bumper - to get that to work I had to buy the black side trim pieces from the 02+ Coopers (parts #2 on RealOEM). This was because the side pieces on the MCS and 02+ MC's are a similar shape, but the 05 ones are quite different, especially where they meet up with they bottom piece you're talking about.
The other problem is that the 05 bottom trim piece has a raised section in the middle, which I think is reflected in the shape of the bumper where it attaches. I doubt the older shape would fit.
If you're interested, I have all three trim pieces at home. They were on the MCS bumper I had fitted, but it's since come off in order to sell the car, so I have no use for them any more. Cheaper than ordering new from a dealer.

Hey thanks for the reply.

Do you have any pics of these parts either installed in your MCS bumper or by themselves?

You can email me at jonsibal@cox.net or post em here.

I'll try and get some pics of the bumper and trim pieces tonight and post them here.

02-04 and 05-06 MC bumpers are completely different, trim-wise. the bumper behind the bottom trim is in fact a different shape.

I actually have an 05 bumper with a bit of damage you could have if you want it.

Here's a couple of pics of the MCS bumper with the 02 MC trim, and the differences between them. As others have said, the old and new style bumpers are very different. I just double checked, and there's no way the trim pieces are interchangable.
