Window Tint Residue Removal

As part of the vehicle testing standards in the UK I had to remove the window tint from the left and right side front windows. The tint I had was 35% and in the UK the maximum is 20%. So i removed the stuff, it came off pretty easily but it left behind a sticky film that I cannot figure out how to remove. Window cleaner and even turpintine don't work. I even thought I could polish it off with some very mild abrasive but that didn't work either.

Anybody have any ideas on what the proper thinner or solvent is needed to get my windows clean thanks

Windex or Murphy's oil soap in a spray bottle and one of those razor scrappers, the kind used to remove stickers from windows. Keep the area you're working on very wet and scrape off the goo.....Les

Shouldn't that make your tint legal then? 20% is darker than 35%. The percent numbers can be thought of as the percentage of light that is let through. The lower the percentage, the less light comes through, the darker it is.

Lighter fluid works wonders on removing residues of all sort. It's never been tested on window tint so proceed with caution. Please post your results, just incase.

I use Windex with Ammonia-D with a razor blade window scraper and many paper towels.

Ammonia will take it right off. I just removed some stylin' "purple tint" off an old Mustang and it comes right off. The Windex with Ammonia will also work just takes a little more scraping.

Now we all know why not to use glass cleaners with Ammonia on tinted windows...

Thanks everyone for the how to on removing window tint. The best way to do this was to use Windex and a razor blade scraper. The proceedure was messy, in fact cleaning up the residue was more time consuming than scrapping off the adheisive, but hey it worked and my windows are squeeky clean and legal in the UK now, thanks for the help
