Clear tail lights for 05?

I have clear tail lights on my 04 MC. I have been looking all over for clear tails for my 05 MC that is on order. Does MINI even make them for 05? Do they plan to?

You can fit the old shape clear rear lamps to the 05 mini with a minor mod to the lamp

This is the one I followed and it was dead on. This is a really easy change.

Did you move the backup lamp to the bumper or keep it in the tail?

Got mine from www.outmotoring.com. Check out their website for all the instructions you need to use the 02-04 assemblies in an 05. In fact the instructions are a cut/paste of the email I sent them when I let them know they would work. In simplest terms you need 2 clear bulbs, a soldering iron to remove the stock bulbs and the wiring harnesses will connect right up. no need to rewire anything. I added the myminiparts fog lamp location reverse lamp kit too.

PM me if you want really detailed instructions.

Thanks Joel, I may take you up on that offer. My clear tails are on order. It remains to be seen how easy the install is for me. A few other people have been really helpful also. One way or another, I'll figure it out.

Hi guys,

Lawless: Have you done your clear tails? Did you buy the whole cluster (Tail lights, 3rd light, and Fog light) or just the tail lights?

jfunkmd: what do you mean you added the "myminiparts fog lamp location reverse lamp kit"

I've got a few questions if you guys dun mind me asking.

1. For the third brake light, did you need to change the bulbs to red or does the whole clear thing comes assembled with the red bulbs already?

2. For the '05 rear fog light ( where the reverse light is for the '04), is it still functional as a foglight but requires a red bulb or red LED replacement to be placed inside or has it changed to become a reverse light?

Haven't done my tails yet. My car's still in storage actually, and winter is lingering here in upstate NY. I've ordered the lenses but have not yet gotten the 3rd brake light. I'd like to know the answer to your question myself, sorry I can't help more.

I did all three as a kit from outmotoring.com.

It comes as an assembly that you just plug in. Way easier than the tails

If you have the factory fog light option it functions as that only. I know over on MINI2 some guys had a DIY to make it a brake and a fog light, but I don't know the link. I didn't have the factory option so using the kit linked above I set it up as a reverse lamp. You can get a different kit from mymini to make it a brakelight, but the don't lista fog light kit. I am sure someone has the right link or has done this themselves.

Let me know if you need some help when you do get the car out. I will be happy to email/PM some pictures to help you out.

Awesome. Many thanks. I may take you up on that offer. I'm determined to take my ride out next week, very end of March, which is still pushing it a bit. It's effin' cold up here!
