Windshield Moldings Broken after Windshield Replacement

Okay so check this out......

My girlfriends MCS windshield cracked the day during a bad snow storm here on Long Island. Dunno for what reason, but i did.
She had full glass coverage, so the insurance company sent their 3rd party glass fixer-upper to come replace her glass out.
Well the guy came, swapped the windsheids and busted one of the side moldings on the windshield and didnt even tell her.
Needless to say the molding was broke so bad it flew off the day she drove the car. And also he didnt connect the other side molding well at all

So she calls the insurance company and they say they have to send the company out one more time to fix what they broke. They also busted the clips that hold the chrome windshield trim down as well.

So the guy comes out again with two new moldings, and break those as her puts them in!!! and to top it off, they gave him velcro instead of clips to hold the chrome trim down.

My girlfriend is needless to say pissed right now, and so am I.
My question to you is, how much are these moldings and where can i buy them for cheap because i am just ready to do this myself for her. Because obviously this glass replacement company has so big dough dough head doing the work and has no idea what delicate means and just does things like a brute.

When she said she wants BMW to take care of this for her, the insurance company told her well that is your problem them. What a bunch of BS! They broke the things, not her!!!

They also told her, well it was too cold out for our tech to do it correct, so you will need to come to our facility and have it done. Thats complete BS too!
Sorry, had to vent for her..

but like i said, if you know a place where i can source these black windshield moldings and the white clips under the chrome trim of the windshield, that would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Steve

I would raise H3LL with your insurance company about what a crap job they did. Ask for the manager to come out, etc., etc.

If you can't be bothered, which is what it sounds like, call Classic Auto Campus for the best prices on MINI parts. Tell them you found them on NAM. Find their info in the sponsor section of this board.

BTW, if it was a stress crack, which it may have been, it could've been covered under warranty.

Do a search on this forum about stress cracks and/or windshield replacement. Seems to be less of a problem than in the beginning years, but still exists.

That's exactly the reason why I will NEVER let a company come out to my car to replace ANYTHING. Your insurance company can't tell you who can and can't fix your car!! (It might be time to drop them). And . . . 99.9% of the time the BMW/MINI dealer isn't even the ones who replace the windshield, they usually have a third party glass company that does it. I live on LI and I have had my windshield replaced twice over at Habberstad Mini in Huntington, and it's never been a problem and they've always done an excellent job. (FONTANA Glass is the name of the company that they outsource it to). As for the insurance company, I have the attitude that "You DON'T tell me what to do, I tell you what to do". I have Geico and they tried to lay that "we use this company" BS on me for windshield #2 and I nipped that ***** right in the bud. I told them, this is who I am using and they will send you the bill, PERIOD !

and did Gieco pay it? I am ready to have my girlfriend do exactly that...

i think it might have been a stress crack like u said. it started from the side of the windsheidl and came over. It seemed to happen in the extreme cold..

This is true depending on the temp outside the stuff they use doesn't set up right.
As for having BMW do it? I'd rather have the oem glass. I would contact the install company have them redo it correctly.

Do a search for ppg vs oem

Yes, Fontana Glass billed them and Geico paid for it, in full. When you make the claim, don't tell them that it is being fixed at teh dealer, tell them that Fontana Glass is fixing it.
