Does this look right? (OEM rack with kayak acc)

Over the weekend I bought & had Mini install a OEM roof rack system on my wife's 2009 Cooper S, while waiting I bought a set of kayak holders to go along with it. I decided I would install the kayak holders myself.
While looking over the instructions and parts it didn't look right. I decided to put it on anyways just to look at it assembled. This is what I got, doesn't look like the kayak holder is made for this OEM crossbar. It looks more for a "oval" style crossbar, not the OEM boxxy crossbars.
Is it just me, or did my local Mini dealership sell me the wrong kayak accessories? Please help, and thanks in advance!
I plan on calling Mini Monday morning.

Did you crush the small plastic faring on the underside?

No, it's just hand tight.
But my question is I thought Mini's kayak holders slide onto the cross bars like other accessories do. Am I wrong about that? It's a cleaner look so I would prefer those that do.

Ya I just hung up with Mini of Portland, he said they dont make the OEM style kayak holders that slide onto the crossbar due to the weight of the kayaks. They would be more secure with these clamp on style. Makes sense, I just didnt know.

What is the purpose of these fairings? Just wondering.
