Cooper :: with the optional spoiler available from the factory
Cooper S :: Stock Spoiler
MINI COOPER / MINI COOPER S :: Aero Kit Spoiler
This spoiler is only available through your local MINI dealership. It is not available from the factory.
What are the differences between the COOPER S spoiler and the aero kit spoiler?
The aero kit spoiler does not have a gap under it like the Cooper S spoiler, and IMO it looks a little more integrated with the roofline of the MINI.
How much does the aero kit spoiler cost?
You can buy the Aero Kit spoiler primed or PRE PAINTED from MINI. I paid about $270 as I recall for a prepainted White spoiler at the Ralph Schomp MINI parts departement.
What is involved in removing the COOPER S spoiler?
Open the hatch
Locate the three black plastic caps
The two outer ones cover the nuts that thread onto the studs from the S spoiler
Once you get the nuts off, the S spoiler is also held in place with a doublebacked adhesive foam tape.
I highly recommend you have a bodyshop do the removal / installation of your spoiler. It cost me $60 to get a body shop to remove my COOPER S spoiler and install the aero kit spoiler.
Can I install a COOPER S spoiler on my COOPER?
Yes! I sold my Cooper S spoiler to a Cooper owner for $100 + shipping.
The cooper S spoiler is held in place with double back tape and a threaded stud coming out of each end of the arch.
If you open your hatch and look at the inside edge where the spoiler would mount, there are two black plastic plugs (one on either side). If you remove these, this is where the bodyshop would drill your hatch to get the threaded studs located.
I highly recommend you have a bodyshop do the removal / installation of your spoiler.
stick with the origanals provided from the factory, they are soooooooo much more tastfull or whait a little and some nicer ones will sprout up!!! just my opinion!! the bottomm one below the m7 one looks to visually heavy!!

Oh well. Between the dirt depositing design of the MINI and Georgia's mandatory outdoor watering restrictions, I've actually gotten used to my car always being dirty.
A lot of guys can only park n boom w/ big after mkt spoilers on their ricers.
A fren of mine gets harased by cops for big Amkt spoiler.
Lota street racing here.
Profilling?
Mini drivers seem to be more tastefull in their choice of mods.
Remember you can purchase a painted version from your dealers parts department. My dealer stocked white and black, but you can order the aero kit spoiler from your dealer painted in any of the stock MINI colors (if you have the body color roof).
I paid $270 at Ralph Schomp MINI in Denver. Call Brian at Classic MINI (NAM vendor) and ask him what he sells the painted ones for. Classic should be able to undercut that price as $270 was the list price as I recall.

That's basically it, but the aero kit spoiler doesn't have any bolts to it. It's a purely taped/bonded operation. The body shop I went to did NOT use the MINI adhesive. They bonded mine into place and then taped/braced the spoiler while the adhesive reached it's initial cure.
As I said in the first post, I would take this to a body shop and get them to do it. It cost me $60 to get mine installed, and that was money well spent IMO since the aero spoiler was properly installed and my "S" spoiler was in excellent shape after the face and I could sell that to help recoup some of the cost.
I "almost - Kinda" like the idea of the Mid hatch.
If they matched a upper and mid. It would resemble some of the World Rally set ups.
Or the Mercury Merkur (although the Merc just may be a bad example)
Been thinking how to get my hands on a second wing. or is that just bling ?

Do you happen to have the P/N for the white version?
Did you happen to watch the body shop remove your "S" spoiler?
I need some maintenance done to my spoiler stripes and it would be easier if it was off the car.I know it has two bolts with double sided tape holding it on,I just wanted to know how much swearing is involved in the removal process,if it's worth the hassle taking it off,or if I should flip the guy a little more cake to do it on the car. Thanks
I don't think it would be a big deal to get off, but you'll have that doubleback foam tape to clean off of both the hatch lid and the bottom of the spoiler at two locations. Then you'll need to get new doubleback tape. Just my $0.02, but I think I would just try to leave the spoiler in place if you could.
