Roof Rack for looks

At the risk of being shamed on here... I'm looking to get a Yakima roof rack with a bike mount for my 2009 JCW.

Its a little stupid, I know, but I have it in my head that I want to add the roof rack just for looks, because I rarely even use my bike anymore.

I'm looking for a sleek sporty looking bike mount/roof rack install.

Anyone have any recommendations?

I have a Thule bike Roof Rack if you are interested. Came off my 08 just yesterday. I do think that they look pretty cool on there. Here is a pic of it installed:

The OEM MINI Roof rack looks pretty good in my opinion , it has a the soft shoulders and states MINI on the sides. If that's the look you want. Some guys pare them with rocky mounts in a color that matches there body or top, since rocky mounts come in many color. You could then down the road have some more utility if you decide to use it with a MINI contoured roof box or maybe the aluminum luggage basket. If you do the rocky mounts with the hardtop R56 and have the rear wing you have to trim the ends a bit, most guys say about 3". So you can open the boot/ trunk all the way.

Roof Rack Base Bars Fits R56 & R55 (without installed rails )

Rocky mounts.

It's not silly, I thought about doing the same thing when I got my MINI. Though, I opted out because I figured, why make an un-aerodynamic car even more un-aerodynamic. However, in terms of looks, trust me it will look awesome with a roof rack! Good luck.

Here is the rocky mounts close up. It will have to fit these types of mounts. They fit the OEM MINI Base Bars. From rockymount: " RockyMounts Euro PitchFork rooftop mount fits Euro/slotted crossbars found on European made cars (Audi, BMW, VW, Volvo, MINI), Thule® Aero Blade bars, Yakima® Whispbar, and Rhino Rack® bars . "

Front mount:

Rear mount:

Thanks

Hi two250,

Are you selling yours?? If so, what do you want for them? Just to complicate things further, I am in Australia But I am interested. Either PM me, or reply to this thread and we can discuss.

Thanks,

Ken

Sorry to dig up this thread...

two250, did you have trouble mounting that thule kit?
I'm trying to mount mine, but the measures in the instructions seems not quite correct, and the bars are kinda bending in the midle...

Thanks

Hey, I think I've seen that car in my garage! LOL!

Seriously though, you can't go wrong with the MINI factory rack and RockyMounts even if only for the looks.

Did you notice any difference with the fairing installed? I just picked up a factory rack and two bike mounts for my R55. I only notice a mild whistle without bikes, and more noticeable one with the bikes mounted.

I'm assuming it's just the bike making noise and would hate to spend the money on a fairing if that's the case.

Also, I have no sunroof so that isn't a concern for me.

I noticed a little bit of extra noise on the free way but it really doesnt bother me. I did lose about 3-4 MPG though :(

If you actually do want to carry a bike I highly recommend the RockyMounts Brass Knuckles. Fits all the different base racks, you don't need to remove your front wheel and it'll hold just about any bike regardless of wheel size.
The Yakima base rack works well.
