Interior/Exterior Headliner DIY

Finally took the time and got the headliner out. What a pain in the a**. The hardest part was having the courage to pull the A-pillars. I ended up braking one plastic tab on the A-pillar but I think it's salvageable.
Headliner out:
A-Pillar Clips:
B-pillar:
C/D-pillar:
If you have a sunroof, don't forget to check the drainage tubes. The first pic shows mine disconnected and the reason my passenger floor would get wet when it rains.

Anyone ever use the grey headliner fabric from Joanne's? This stuff... https://www.joann.com/headliner-util...y/3496064.html
Can't get a sample locally and curious how it looks in car.

Just went and picked up 2.5 yards of the gray stuff Joanne's has - using one of their easy to find 50%off coupons, it came out to $7.99 per yard. It is somewhat darker, but otherwise looks stock fabric-wise. I may have to pick up some vinyl dye/paint to match the sun visors and clock surround - we'll see how it looks when I'm done. Have to get the EWP conversion done first though.

I wouldn't bother dying the parts to match since it is unlikely that you will find an exact match to the headliner, and you will just have a different color mismatch! The headliner will fade a bit over time and probably come closer to the color of everything else.
For anyone doing this for the first time, my advice is to find a junkyard car and try to take it apart first. When I did that, I found that the rear quarter trim needs to be pulled back or removed to get to the B and C pillar trim retaining screws. Be very careful if you have the anthracite trim package as the trim parts in that color are hard to come by and expensive when you do. If you find a car with it in the junkyard, consider pulling the parts to have as spares. The pillar trims are a hard plastic that will crack easily if you try to bend them too much.

I just purchased a 2006 MCS JCW with sagging headliner, and this is one of the first things I'm going to try to address as I update the car. Quick question as you're working on this and taking everything out. I see all the airbags along the roofline, are you disconnecting the battery before you start working so that you don't accidentally deploy the airbags? Or am I being too cautious about this happening? Thanks!

Thanks everybody for your input on this thread, I'm about to tackle this while we SIP.

Has anybody tried painting directly over the yellowish cardboard with some kind of textured paint instead of wrapping it with fabric? I was thinking of doing this and if it turns out ugly, then I can always wrap it. I would first like to know if someone has done it or if someone thinks its a bad idea. Thanks,

To remove clock you push forward the pull down. If you have a sunroof. You can reach in between to liner. You will fill the metal spring tab of the clock. Push towards the windshield an clock will release. There is 2 plastic post on the opiset side. Be careful to tilt at a angle when removing. Do not pull straight down.

I finally found the time to do this and ran into B pillar issues -
I was able to get the headliner out, but the B pillars never wanted to budge. I was able to wiggle the edges out from under with A and C pillars loose, but I'm worried about getting the headliner back IN without the B pillars loose. I have seen posts and videos claiming to never break any or the pillars loose - anyone have experience with this issue?
I tried pulling out/up, out/down, and popped the lower dark plastic piece loose first, nothing seemed to work.. I was able to snap a few of the inner "fins" off, but not break any clips loose.

I'd like to replace the headliner in my S soon. I recall on the r50, it felt as if I was about to break the pillar off to get them to budge. Do you have a sunroof?
