How do you remove the side reflectors?

does anyone know how to remove the side reflectors on the wheel arches? I searched but couldn't really find an answer.

Thanks in advance.

They aren't that hard to get off, but they're really frustrating. It's easier if you jac kup the car and take the wheel off first.

Unscrew the plastic rivets inside the wheel well and pull the felt lining down. The bulb inside the reflector turns about 90 degrees before you can pull it out. As far as I remember, there is only one silver nut holding it on, but it's not a nut you can just unscrew, it doesn't have any threads. I pretty much sat there pulling on it as hard as I could for 10-15 minutes before I got it completely off, and you pull the reflector out from the outside of the car.

Hopefully you'll get a better understanding once you get the lining off, it's been about 8 months since my reflector lens cracked and I had to replace it. It wasn't too hard.

Good luck!

Thanks for the reply drewstermalloy.

That sounds like a pain in the a$$. I guess i'll just have to plasti-dip it with it on the arch... has anyone done this yet?

Just a note for you. Most states require them to be in place an lit. covering them with plasti-dip them will make the car fail inspection in many states.

The reason most cars do not have tehm is that the side markers are built in to the corner light on the car so that they can bee seen from theh side of the car. MINI's do not have such corner light so they have put the side lights in the wheel arches.

I am not telling you not to do it but just a warning.

Thanks for the info schatzy62... but respectfully I don't think matters too much in Cali and I hate the way it looks. The good part of it that plasti-dip is reversible if I do get hassled by the cops.

I've seen the clear ones for the R53's but not for the R56's yet.

I was thinking about plastidipping mine too, but I haven't gotten around to it. I plasti-dipped the side scuttle lights and it worked really well. But schatzy is right, the car place wouldn't let me pass NYS inspection until I removed it. It wasn't a big deal cause I just peeled it off and redid it.
