^^^ Holy Dark batman!

That seems borderline dangerous to me. I didn't think it was legal anywhere to tint the windshield, especially that much.

I had 35% tint all around including the sunroof. I had them remove the tinting from the front windows (driver & passenger)...too dark for these old eyes at night. 20% would probably good on the sunroof.

Happens, though. My boss got pulled over in his FX45 and the cop wrote him a ticket for the tint he'd had done. What chafes me about that is that the Mass state police unmarked cars all have limo tint in their windows -- way darker than the state's legal limit. Lame!

The local installer just refused to tint my sunroof saying that the glass would explode. I have heard of this idea before but I have never heard of it actually breaking. Anyone had their MINI sunroof fail do to tint?

I guess I could see a concern with heat build-up. Some 07+ Minis seem to have trouble with sunroofs refusing to open when hot, so with that in mind, I could see the concern. But it's the first I've heard of it.

(My MCS is one of the rare ones with no sunroof, so I can't attest.)

My SA sez that's a crock of **** about the moonroof glass shattering because of a tint, and I was told to go ahead and do it-- my dealer will do it for $150 but I found a tint shop that'll use 3M limo 5% on both panes for $50.

besides if the glass "explodes" the tint will protect any shards from dropping inside. So Id shop around. someone will do it.

Yea, that's what the place said where I went to get mine done. When I asked them if they would do the sunroof they said no because the sunroof draws a high concentration of heat and they don't want the glass shattering.

y'd have a bigger mess if it shattered w/o a tint. One recent AM I found my $900 rear pass quarter window somehow shattered--but the a/m tint held it together to where I could then tape it until Elite's arrival. Only around the edges did it crumble. The Elite guy was amazed he literally had to vacuum nothing out of the back seat.

Besides, Im pretty sure tints reflect heat, not absorb it

Total BS on the sunroof shattering due to tint. I've had many sunroofs in cars tinted. My Cooper S sun roof is tinted 5% Limo no issues and it's been out in the sun for 2 weeks 100 degree temps.

Just to make sure this is not some sort of Mini issue and since I am new with Mini's I called my dealer whom has 1/2 their stock tinted and they said there is no issue with tinting the sunroof and they have been doing it for a long time.

I agree, scheduled another tint shop for tomorrow afternoon. Going with 35% all the way around, did not want it to be to dark but just to keep the heat down, I am frying in midday traffic.

It will help a lot. I did 35% all the way around and 5% Limo on the sunroof. I can still see through the sunroof just fine too.

Bumping an older thread...

This is happening in a suburb of where I live. The bored local cops are stopping people specifically to check your window tint. I've been told it's a US$150.00 ticket.

My brother-in-law just open a tint shop in the Mooresville NC, Tint Solutions. He does great work and uses LLumar tint. He also does paint protection. Got mine done the other day. It looks great. Give him a call and tell him that your are a mini maniac and Eric sent you. 704-657-1504

I'm in NY and I have 20 all around, 5 for the sunroof, and 35 for the front. My family was questioning me if my front were tinted because from the inside, you can see PERFECTLY but from the outside you can barely see inside. No problems yet.

Actually, if you go down Hwy 98 a few miles to Mary Esther, Spiffy's does a great job. It's on Mary Esther Cut and Lovejoy Road.

My MINI has 5% on the 2 front windows and 20% with a layer of 5% over that on the 3 rear windows. Haven't been bothered by the cops yet. Although windows down at some intersections at night are a must.

I disagree (respectively of course) that you can't see in on 35% - maybe it was raining that day which makes is look darker, you can see in with 35% very easilyl.
