Hey guys, stupid question, but... I have an 04 with hids, I have always liked the 05/06 headlights. Can I just switch them out? i would love to do this mod but it seems like it looks the best with the 05/06 lights.

Well, I'm pretty sure you have to swap the entire headlight assembly. Can be done, but expensive...ouch.

I wonder if they charge more for that, if it ever becomes a factory option

Kinda takes the fun out of the whole Joey Mod thing. The 50th Anniversary Mini looks good but I reckon they should of done more to the body kit to spice it up like the GP's kit.

I tried the oven @ 230 degrees for up to 10 minutes & only half of the goo loosened up...

I'm afraid I would break my lense if I pried harder or that the plastic would melt at a higher temp.

I may try a heat gun tomorrow cause all I have to show for it now is a broken headlight washer from the removal of the deadlights : (

I'm sorry, I guess I didn't make it clear enough--use an industrial grade heat gun. You can direct the heat exactly to the interface between lens cover and housing, and it works. Every time. I have yet to hear of someone using this method who didn't get it done first time, and easily.
The oven idea is so yesterday. It's like using paper mache when we have carbon fiber...

I see from your sig you have an 06, you should be able to use a hair dryer on its hottest setting, if you dont have a heat gun around

Hey everyone. I am looking to buy these. Any thoughts or opinions? They look legit but I am kinda skeptical of the plug and playability from my non halogens to these.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BMW-M...ht_4476wt_1197

Also, can anyone post pics of a joeymod on BRG? The WC50 is not BRG.

Thanks!

Dr. Phil- You were very detailed & clear about using a heat gun- I just tried the old method first...

I tried a heat gun today- It really heated up the lights but there were still parts of the housing that wouldn't loosen-up.

I would love to do this mod but it's not worth melting the housing or cracking the clear plastic by prying it apart : (

If you want to give it a third and final shot heat up a 10cm area and pry apart with a screwdriver. Then work your way around the headlight. There are 3 clips that will hold the lens to the headlight body you will need to push open to do the mod.

Thanks 07BPB- I didn't see or know about the clips...

That may of been what was preventing a couple places from moving the whole time.

Unfortunately, the last attempt caused the lens to crack so I won't be trying it again.

The crack is contained under the headlight ring, so keep your fingers crossed that it doesn't spread.

so I tried the oven... got nothing... got a heat gun... and my stuff doesnt go gooey at all like Ive seen in pics... I managed to get a little of the stuff out and I took my heat gun to it to see how hot it had to be before it melted... it doesnt.. it burns before it melts... the lens bends before the sealant burns.. my lens is now warped and Im not sure I can get the ring on.
