I used plastidip, I followed some thread a while ago, and for a couple of months someone ran plastidip in their joey mod wit no problem. plus i think it comes out more satin black looking than BBQ paint, which turns out kind of dark gray

thats what I thought, but I followed the other thread for a couple of months, and it seemed fine. but that was for an R56, I'll keep this updated with how the plastidip holds up

there's the thread i followed, i guess back in 2008 haha, but it says that plastidip can withstand up to 200 degrees, and that should be more than enough to withstand the xenon lights

Xenons produce less heat than halogens but have a higher color temperature, meaning they are more like "daylight" than halogens.

Thanks for the guide! Really helped.

I put my lights in the airing cupboard (small and very warm room with the water boiler that you put towels etc in) for a few hours before pulling apart with the use of a heat gun.

Just the warmth from sitting in the cupboard was alost enough to get the lenses off. Took 15 minutes a light.

They are being painted white and electric blue this week, so should have them back together and fitted this weekend.

As requested:

They go on the car today, so will post another pic next week after I get back from the London to Brighton.

The painter said they were a PITA to paint and lacquer due to their shape and complexity, but his paint job is flawless. He didn't use acetone to strip the chrome, he used some kind of pad, but its name escapes me at the moment.

So what are some other opinions. Plastidip scares me...unless some other people can confirm it works fine.

I'm having mine spray painted by the guy that does my body work, so should be a 100% match. He was doing some more stuff for me this week, so figured why not. If it can hold up to the heat of the bonnet then I doubt the lights will be any worse.

I'm sure it would work, but you would just need to prep the surface and stuff

Krylon Fusion works just fine, that's what I used when I did my xenons last year. No problems dealing with the heat.

Your headlights look insane! Nice work! That electric blue looks unreal.

I went to the mini dealer here and some of the employee's were outside and saw me pull up. I was browsing around and the 3 of them were checking out my car admiring the headlights. Think I am one of the few if any of the people in AUS that have done the mod. :D
