Remove and replace bonnet/boot wings

I understand floss or fish line to remove the wings work best, but what works best to reattach?

I'm looking to 'dip or paint mine.

Thanks

I did both of mine and I just used a high strength double-sided tape from 3M. I haven't had any issues yet.

edit- What about this... (linked)

^ That's the stuff. I use it to stick all kinds of stuff in all kinds of places... It's been holding on one of my mirror caps for 30,000 miles. It was holding on my OEM scoop after the hardware broke off... And lots of other little stuff...

I used emblem adhesive. you can buy a tube at a local autoparts store. It can be quite messy if you are not careful.

Thanks, but I have some as well...never used it before though so not sure how well it holds. Also wonder if the thickness would keep it from setting flush?

I believe the emblems are slightly recessed to accommodate slight thickness. They are held on with tape, so it shouldn't be an issue.

Good to hear

However, I've been sawing away with fishline and have gotten as far as I can from each end (boot wings). The stopping point is not symmetrical so I don't think it's the mounting posts (at least not both of them) that's stopping me.

Does anyone have a picture of the back side showing where the posts are?

Now, assuming I do get through, I can't see how to actually get it off the car. I don't want to stratch the paint or bend the wings...what's the trick?

Im not 100% certain but i believe the two prongs are each side of the circle. I didnt even use fishing line. i used my fingertips and muscles lol. Once i was able to pry up the wings enough to get my finger tips under, i just pulled hard. Making sure to keep leverage behind the emblem as much as possible so not to snap it in half. It helps if you put some heat on it to soften the bond. heres mine before i reinstalled.

Update: My curiosity got the best of me...I just went and yanked my emblem back off. If you look at my picture above, the two prongs are directly behind the M and the second I in MINI. Its about 30 degrees outside, and i was able to pull it off with little struggle and just my hands. BTW, the emblem is pretty durable, i bent it just to see what would happen, as I have extras layin around.
