Headlight ring blackout poll..

I found a place in town that had flat black vinyl made for outdoor use (UV protected) and the guy gave me about a yard for 10 bucks. It's good quality stuff. He was more interested in my mini and what I was going to use the stuff for.

Anyways. I wanted to see any pics of Indi Blue owners that might have blacked out the headlight rings and kinda take a poll on if I should do it or not. I know I can just take it back off but I dont want to bother with it if I decide I want to keep it chrome.

I hyst took off the chrome/color matched grill and put an all black sport grill (upper and lower) and it looks 100% better than the chrome one. I also plan to have the fender and rocker plastic pieces painted to match the car.

Think the black headlight ring would look cool/good? I dont want it to look cheezy.

Yes, yes, yes.

I just did the same on my BRG R53 and I really like the result - check my gallery if you want to see it.

(vinyl >>>> paint - painted mine, already chipped.)

I have my headlight rings, side markers and grill blacked out, and I love it! Changes the look of the car so much! You know, if you're not sure about the black, vinyl styles is doing body colored headlight rings and tail light rings that you might check out as well. Just a thought, but whatever you end up doing, I'm sure it will look awesome!

Well it looks like the Mini will go back in the garage and under the knife tomorrow! Color matched might look cool tho... Maybe after I have the plastic color matched I will do the lights also.. In vinyl.

LOL not that you would gain from it or anything

Seriously do it.

I wrapped mine and Phannariths myself (used to be in the sign biz so I know what I'm doing). Wrapping them yourself can take quite a bit of time and is easy to mess up if you don't have experience doing it.

Vinyl Styles is the way to go. They come done all you do is swap them out for yours its maybe a 20-30 minute job if you've never pulled them off before.

On the 1st Gen there are 3 clips along the bottom edge that need to be gently lifted and 2-3 small pieces of double stick tape between the ring and the lens holding it together. The ring then will slide towards the top of the headlight and off (there are 1 or 2 tabs that hook the edge of the lens at the top).
