Add MFSW to non-MFSW 3-spoke wheel ?

Looking at some used 2006 MCS's that have the 3-spoke wheel but no MFSW buttons. Can the MFSW features be retrofitted to the wheel?

I've found posts on people retrofitting existing 2-spoke MFSW to 3-spoke MFSW, but can't seem to locate if you can go from a non-MFSW to a MFSW setup.

To get an idea of what is involved, MotoringFile has the instructions for a 2-spoke MFSW retrofit: http://www.motoringfile.com/howto/MFSW.PDF. The document says 3.5 hours of labor. You would need updated instructions for a 2006 3-spoke but the procedure should be similar. MINI sells a retrofit kit: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...26&hg=66&fg=95

I read through that retrofit earlier, didn't look too bad. No full dash removal is required from the way it reads, just odometer and tachometer and a few panels access for fuses, etc.

Anyone know the rough cost of the retrofit kit?

$382 according to pelicanparts.com. You should check with Classic MINI for a discounted price. You will also need to have a dealer program the computer.

From what I understand all the 2006 MC & MCS already have all the wiring in the wheel, all you need is the panels with the buttons. As someone else mentioned the retrofit kit is like $382 from pelicanparts.com. Should only take about 30-45 mins to change out the panels, but you'll need to take it back to the dealer to have them tell the computer in your Mini to recognize the functions.

I too want to do this to my Mini, and I think I've read nearly every post on this topic, so hope it helps.

Does this 2006 wiring info apply to the 05's?

I have an 05 mcs and I have the two multi function panels, from another car, do you think I can use them plug and play, or do I need to purchase retro fit kit?

The connection under the airbag and wiring should already be in the column. Take the air bag off, plug in the wiring. You might have to go to the dealer to program the function.
