The Alcantara is very high quality but for headliner material which will only see sunlight via reflection... I don't think its a justifiable expense. There are a number of fabrics that mimic the feel and texture for a fraction of the cost. I am going to be wrapping my headliner next week with an 'ultrasuede' material (most likely, I'm going up to the fabric store and may find something more interesting so I will keep you posted.)
I haven't found an inexpensive source for black plastics to match so I will most likely use a plastic paint. In my research it seems to be the best alternative to replacing them and if done properly will last for years. One important thing to remember is that for best adhesion you have to remove the existing headliner fabric and glue the new material to the backing. If anyone has any questions or wants to check it out once I finish it up, I'm in the Philadelphia area
be careful in what suede you use, i had the al. headliner in my 3 series and i was lucky and didnt have any fading but my friends headliner that was done has turned green from the sun...
all the parts minus the a b and c pillars are about 200-300 dollars i believe when i priced them out, also i believe the center roof console is like the bmw one so if you want to pay 300 for a new one because of the electronics in it you can but a can of black trim paint will do the trick. It comes out flawless. then wrap and enjoy.
