I am ordering my Clubman-S this weekend. I do not want the run flats but Mini won't sell conventional tires on their 16"+ wheels. Anyway, I've been told that it's important to have someone knowledgable about run-flats change them when the time comes. I plan to replace my run-flats as soon as the car arrives.
Any suggestions for quality Mini tire work around Houston?
As for changing runflats, I think many of us have used different branches of Discount Tire at some time for our MINIs. I don't think the issue with runflats is removing them and mounting something else, but only mounting new runflats. I have used Discount Tire to remove old runflats and mount replacements, also Firestone to mount AX tires. In both cases, the branch dealers I used did a good job, mounting, balancing and without damaging my wheels. Both dealers I used are up north near Mini of The Woodlands. Maybe someone else can give you better advice or suggestions for your location.
Yep, to hood scoop warping. I did mention it in reply to your thread re 195 vs 205 tires! I think the warping reaches a certain degree and then is stable after that. If you opt for a JCW carbon fiber scoop ($$$), then it apparently is not a problem. If MINI will give me the cost of the OEM scoop toward the JCW scoop, then I will make the swap.
I think all of us with sunroofs here in Houston have experienced the opening problem on really hot days. Usually driving for a few minutes cools it off enough so that it will open. Some people also give it an assist push when they hit the switch which may do the trick. There have been cases reported on NAM where the sunroof has shattered from just sitting in the sun, although I don't think anyone here has experienced that!
By the way, n733lk,... You might get more feedback to your questions from the local TX crowd if you post on metroplexmini.org. That is the Dallas area club's website and has all kinds of threads for mods, maintenance, repairs, just about any topic you want to focus in on. Houston MINI Motoring Society has been granted a forum on this site where we do much of our posting.
