Come out to hawaii. We can probably find you a co-drive. Who knows maybe you can assist finding me a co-drive in a Street class MINI at Nationals. I'd consider that.

Event 11 is this sunday, come and watch for free or

Get to the Aloha Stadium lower parking lot gate (park inside the stadium parking then head towards McDonalds along Salt Lake Blvd).

The gate opens at 730am and you can walk up to register to drive, bring a check, cost is about $55. You need closed shoes and a Snell M2005 or later helmet if you have one or can borrow one. Otherwise there are loaner helmets available at our trailer first come first served in exchange for an ID.

New drivers (Rookie class) are driving in Heat 3 right after lunch so it is a perfect time for anyone new to auto crossing. You get your car tech inspected before 8am and then walk the course with an instructor before 845am. You watch the morning drivers and hatch a plan of attack or simply use the time to get familiar with the course (memorize it). Then you can walk the course again at lunch before driving. You work the course after you finish driving then if you can stick around, you can drive in fun runs but you will need a $5 fun run card, ask for it at the gate when you register (might only be available through online motorsportreg.com).

If you can't make this date then plan for April 3, 2016 sunday and do online pre-reg, search for Hawaii autocross events. Pre-reg won't open until the end of March.

Here are the new 2016-2017 Autocross event dates-

Mark your calendars! We have the full list of dates for next season! Thanks to Jenn for all the work!

07/16/16 Clean Up 9am – 11am
07/17/16 Test-N-Tune
07/31/16 Race #1
08/14/16 Race #2
08/28/16 Race #3
09/18/16 Race #4
10/09/16 Race #5
10/23/16 Race #6
11/06/16 Race #7
12/18/16 Race #8
01/14/17 Evo School
01/15/17 Evo School
01/16/17 Evo School
01/22/17 Race #9
02/19/17 Race #10
03/12/17 Race #11
03/26/17 Race #12
04/09/17 Championship Runoff

Of note, the test and tune on July 17 is an open to all practice day, great for new drivers and we offer instruction. Plus you get to drive more for that day since we limit the number of drivers and we allow you to drive in 2/3rds of the heats.

And on MLK weekend January 2017 we have the Evolution driving school which is three full days, you can sign up for one day, 2 or all three. $280 per day estimated per person includes mainland instructors and you drive all day.

In order to drive the 2nd day you must attend the first day, to drive the 3rd day you must have attended both day 1 and 2 (sometime in the past or that weekend).

We allow drivers with only permits to attend since we provide instructors to ride along. It's great for learning car control in your own family car. Nothing special needed for your car, you need closed shoes and we can provide a loaner helmet (needs to be Snell rated M2005 or later).

We sponsor the Evolution school only once every two years so this is a great limited opportunity. Each day only 30 drivers can attend.

Online registration will be open in late October 2016, look for the announcement here.

OK, so the 2015-2016 season is now over.

For Points on the season
Kenlie W. in Pax D Street finished 12th overall in class.
Mark J. in Rookie D Street finished 2nd overall in class and was consistent at each event.

For the Championship Runoff
Mark J. in Rookie D Street finished 3rd out of 19 drivers, 50th on raw time, 24th on Pax Overall with 96 total drivers. A strong showing, only 0.64 seconds behind 2nd place Corvette Z06 which had a string of 1st place finishes during the regular season.

Next event after the summer break is July 17 for test and tune at Aloha Stadium

Next event is on July 17 at Aloha Stadium lower parking lot.

It's a practice day Test and Tune so more driving for each person. Instruction available.

It's a good chance to practice car control and get your family members/ teen driver out on a closed course to learn driving skills.

This sunday is Test and Tune at Aloha Stadium lower parking lot all day.

The event was limited to 44 drivers and pre-reg filled up in a few minutes when it opened last saturday at 9am. A few people on the wait list got in at the last minute this week due to some cancellations. So even if you have to wait list it's worth it.

There will be some additional test and tune dates for saturday afternoons during the season, next one is Aug 27 saturday. Sunday is an autocross event.

The June 12 special autocross event is a good one for new drivers.

Instructors will be available.

Smaller group is likely vs normal 100+ drivers due to this being in our off season.

Larger paved upper parking lot should be interesting.

June 12 special autocross event at Aloha Stadium will take walk up registrations-

https://www.motorsportreg.com/events...awa-lot-861687

SCCA MEMBER Walk-Up Registration: $45

Non-Member Walk-Up Registration: $60 ($45 + $15 for weekend membership)

Fun Run Card: $5

Cash is NOT accepted at our events!!

This is not a regular season event so some special rules will apply. If you are not a new driver you can take along one passenger during competition runs, snell rated helmet and closed shoes are required to ride along.

Normally during competition we do not allow passengers except for rookie drivers who have an instructor.

Spectators are still welcome to attend for free, normal parking gates are not open due to holiday, enter our event off of salt lake blvd just past Mc Donalds.

If you want to walk up register to drive you need to be there early at 7am. With 90 drivers already pre-registered we will take a few walk ups but then close the event by 8am or if our event limit is reached.

You do not need to have any special tires or mods to drive. SUVs and Minivans not allowed but non raised trucks usually can drive. Do remove anything loose from the trunk or interior as these can fly around during driving.

Schedule of day-
6:00am Track Setup
7:00am Event Gates / Walk-Up Registration / Tech Opens
8:30am Course Open for Walking (Chalking / Cone Marking / Gravel Removal Continues)
8:15am Walk-Up Registration Closes
8:30am Morning Tech Closes
9:15am Morning Driver’s Meeting
9:30am Heats 1 & 2
11:30am Afternoon Check-In Closes

30 Minute Lunch / Afternoon Course Walk / Rookie Walk (if RK runs Heat 3 or 4)
Afternoon Tech Closes at Start of Lunch
15 Minute Afternoon Driver’s Meeting

5:15pm Latest Event End Time / Clean Up
5:45pm All Cars Exit Upper Halawa Lot

Since it is sunny bring sun protection. Tents are allowed if you weigh down each leg.

Don't forget that closed shoes are required. We have helmets for loan in exchange for an ID.

While everyone else was taking the day off (not federal workers) we were out testing our new site at Aloha Stadium upper parking lot which is larger than the lower parking lot but the surface has more cracks and isn't as durable.

As a result there was an ocean of gravel kicked up before the end of the first of four heats and a never ending battle to pick out the shorter and clean line while avoiding the gravel lining the outer edges of turns.

Overall it was nice not to have such a technical and tight course with crossovers but at the same time the dodging of gravel did make this new course quite technical.

Looking at the overall race times show that cars with race tires had little to no advantage over those on street tires. The loss of traction on race tires was unforgiving and the limited choices for race driving line took the fast line away.

However it was good practice to drive under those conditions and if done right the course did flow well.

For now I think we will be sticking with the lower parking lot which is much smoother and stays cleaner during the event.

We had about 90+ drivers and many new Rookies. We allowed passengers and instructors so it was a good learning event.

Next autocross will be a Test and Tune on Sunday July 16 at the Lower parking lot area. Usually there is a limit of about 60 drivers so be sure to sign up early. It is a practice day so instructors are available and it's a good time to try out any changes to your suspension or tuning before the season starts on July 30.
