MINIFunDrives "Beach" Day 07-19-2008

Over here in the Houston area at the last Sonic Gathering on the South side there was interest in a “beach” day. Perhaps some of you from our east would like to head west for the day to join up with us.

The planned route:

• Depart Sonic Drive In at 8841 N Highway 146, Baytown, TX 77520 (Turn Left)
• Hwy 146 and I-10 [SR-73] for 11.6 miles
• At 810, take Ramp (RIGHT) (FM-563 / Anahuac / Liberty) for .6 miles
• Keep RIGHT onto FM-563 for 9 miles
• Turn LEFT (East) onto FM-2936 for 2.4 miles
• Turn RIGHT (South) onto FM-562 for 4.1 miles
• Bear LEFT (East) onto FM-1985 [Whites Ranch Rd] for 14.8 miles
• Turn RIGHT (South) onto SR-124 for 8.8 miles
• Merge onto SR-87 for 16.4 miles
• Turn LEFT (South-East) onto Kenlyn Dr, Port Bolivar, Texas
• Arrive on Beach
• Depart Beach
• Turn LEFT (West) onto SR-87 for 13.1 miles
• Load up for Ferry Ride
• Galveston Island, Take SR-87 [Ferry Rd] (South) for 1.4 miles
• Bear RIGHT (South-West) onto FM-3005 [SR-87] for 0.2 miles
• Keep RIGHT onto SR-87 [Broadway St] for 131 yards
• Turn LEFT (South) onto 6th St [University Blvd]for 164 yards
• Bear RIGHT (South-West) onto FM-3005 [Seawall Blvd] for 1.5 miles
• At 2496 Seawall Blvd, Galveston, TX 77550, turn RIGHT (North) onto 25th St [Rosenberg St] for 0.8 miles
• LEFT (West) onto SR-87 [Avenue J]
• Stop at the first self service car wash on Right or Left hand side.
• At exit 1A, road name changes to I-45 for 32.8 miles
• At exit 33, take Ramp (RIGHT) onto Gulf Fwy for 0.5 mi
• Turn RIGHT (North-East) onto Kurland Dr for 43 yards
• Arrive Fuddruckers [11950 Kurland Dr, Houston TX 77034, (281) 484-7371]

We will leave from Baytown, TX (Hwy 146 and I-10) travelling the “back” way to Crystal Beach, hang out for the day. Those that want to return the same way can or head on across the Ferry.

The plan is to pull out at 9 AM on Saturday, July 19th from the meet up location in Baytown (There is a Sonic Drive In on Hwy 146 just off I-10, easy access to and from the Sonic to I-10). The Sonic Drive In's address is 8841 N. Highway 146, Baytown, TX 77520. If you can’t make it for our prompt departure time please catch up using the route listed.

I have a canopy that I can bring and a small pit for cooking if want to bar-b-que. Or we can do sandwiches, basically I'm game for whatever, but we should discuss this a little bit to make this a group involvement for everyone!

Anyone have a volleyball setup they can bring or horse shoes?

We’ll plan on staying down there most of the afternoon. We will plan to leave around 3:30 or so to start heading back. Considering the ferry wait time, it could take a while to cross back over to Galveston. Those that goes back that way we can make a quick stop at a car wash, then stop at Fuddruckers off Hwy 45 south just inside the beltway.

Please PM me or speak up in this thread if you have any suggestions or ideas to contribute to this event. I'm going to post this on the Gulf Coast thread for the Louisiana folks.

All details including a PDF of the route guide is posted on my website, www.MINIFunDrives.com.
