Chip in windshield after 2 days

I took delivery from the dealer on my GP2 Friday and already my windshield has a chip right in my driver field of view. Dammit. Wondering what my options are. Does either the MINI warranty or maintenance coverage help with that? I also have AAA too because their car insurance is crazy cheap here and requires you to carry to roadside coverage as well. Would much rather have a windshield with the same cool MINI logo and little black dotted edge trim rather than generic glass from safelite or some place like that.

i doubt the MINI warranty covers it but your insurance might. If the chip can be fixed without replacing the entire windshield some insurance companies will pay for it.

Side note - in over 50 years of driving i only had 2 stone chips, both in my first MINI.

Push on it till the chip turns into a crack line and claim on INS. Fla has 0 deductible on front glass, not sure about other states.

They won't warranty it. We do chip repair at my shop and I can tell you a proper repair can hardly be seen. Find a windshield repair shop and do that, repairs are usually less than $100

Get it fixed instead of replacing the glass. You will probably get more of them anyhow.

See your in KS and have been enjoying the cold temps, don't use your defroster on hot or it won't be a chip for long.

Thanks for the info I will try to find a shop in town that can fix and report back. Never fixed one before and a little puzzled how that could work and result in a clear window but willing to try so I could keep my stock glass. Definitely too scared to try the pushing/cracking/maintenance option unless several people have had luck with that. (And WayMotorWorks thanks for the reply if you see this I started another thread with some questions about your msf kit if you want to chime in there)

Depending on the chip, position and the skill of the repair guy - a repair can be done really well. But let the repair shop look at it and see.

if its all surface they fill it in with an epoxy that is clear, if the crack has gone through the laminate to the glass, then its time to replace it!

So I noticed today I have a large crack in the windshield just above the rear view mirror that is in addition to a chip that is in my field of vision. I'm going to have to get the whole windshield replaced at this point. Any idea what the cost will be for something like this?

Costs will vary depending on the company you use, if you have a rain sensor, and if you elect to have other trim replaced. $350-$700 should be a ballpark.

See this excellent thread with tons of pics documenting the process: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...l-by-abra.html

The front glass on our Mini's are designed and installed more perpendicular than most other cars on the road. Because of that we are going to suffer more glass damage. Small little missiles won't ricochet off our glass, they will chip and break our glass.

Make sure you get the windshield done by a shop that is familiar with mini windshields. My buddy had his done three times by safelite through insurance because they couldn't manage to replace it without it leaking. The leaking eventually got into the electronics and caused serious issues.

I was just going to take it to the dealer to do the repair. Sure I'll end up paying a bit more but if any install issues arise like what you mentioned above, I hopefully shouldn't have any issues. The car will be sold/traded in a few months anyway.

Received a quote from my local mini dealership and the windshield will cost $341 and the labor will be $200 which they outsource. Not too bad.

I, too, experienced a chip in my windshield soon after my new 2009 Clubby arrived in April 2009. Having read about similar experiences from many other MINI owners over the years on this forum, one has to wonder why some MINI owners do not buy a second, newer MINI the next time they are shopping for a automobile. Could it be the comments about quality and durability (in general) have some substance and such an experience does enter into the buying decision in subsequent years??? (for some MINI owners).
