Does the GP2 use the regular JCW/Cooper S Paper Filter or does it already use the K&N Filter? Anyone know?

The GP uses a panel filter. The factory JCW and cooper S also use the same panel filter. Here is a link to the parts

http://realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?...12&hg=13&fg=20

This is a common part on ALL factory R56 cooper S and JCW's, pre and post LCI. See this link on the part

The only one with a different filter AFAIK is the JCW upgrade kit, ie the dealer fitted upgrade, which uses a cone filter

Will there be any improvements if I am to put the 2011+ Cooper S JCW Tuning Kit Air Box in the GP2 vs just putting in the K&N Filter into the stock air box?

The N18 Tuning kit uses the same air box as the factory, except that the tuning kit's air box top has the JCW logo molded into it. The bottom half is exactly the same - I've got one and the part numbers molded into the parts are the same. The Tuning kit did come with a cleanable panel filter that drops in to replace the paper filter - and that filter works with the N18 factory box lid. The tuning kit for the N14 engines was the one with a different box and round filter. That is the part that some folks have retrofitted to N18 engines - pretty sure Way has discussed that here somewhere. That round filter is kinda spendy to replace, and there are a couple of K&N-style replacements available.

According to their website it doesn't state it fits your year JCW. We offer aFe and it's also not listed under our parts catalog here. Might need to call aFe directly and see if the application will for sure work or not.

the base on an n18 is different its taller, the n14 cone top will mount with modification.
youre better off getting a produced intake, the afe intake like the k+n replaces the top with a cone open element filter and retains the rest(base)
I have a K+N shield FS if anyone is interested you would have to source a filter and some minor parts, but it mounts to the base
