Week 39!!!

I'm desparetly waiting for my GP that I ordered in April! As of today my GP is on a vessel called FREEDOM leaving BREMERHAVEN. Any Idea where that is? I've heard people say these things come from Italy, but I called askMini and they said Oxford? Whatever... It's on its way and my dealer said I should see it in 3-4 weeks. This is seriously killing me. I can't stop reading everyones posts that have already gotten thiers... I'm so jelous, but not for long!!!

Linas,
The "body in white" of the MINI is built in Oxford - the basic metal framing / skin that is assembled by robots.
Everything else - engine, exterior, interior, paint, etc - is assembled in Bertone, Italy.
So I call that "built in Italy" (so does MINI); but less knowledgeable MINI folks continue to claim it was built in Oxford - presumably because that's where all other MINIs are built.

I Found My Gp!!

OK...finally have located my GP1292 which is in Production week 39 completed on 29 September 2006. It is on a ship called Capricornus Leader ( http://www.poosu.net/2capricornus_le...nus_leader.JPG ) which is owned by NYK Logistics ( http://www2.nykline.com/home/index.html ). They have no way to track it so I called them with my Bill Of Lading # and was told this:
1. She left Bremerhaven England on 8 October sailing for California. A port called Huenene which is up north by SFO.
2. She goes through the Panama Canal 20/21 October
3. Due in CA on 28 October

Too bad I can't track the ship (that I know of) but this is good enough for me. Based on this I expect my dealer to have her clear bra and tint on and deliver to my the first week of November. Needless to say I am going nuts and my 2003 Velvet Red MC is jellous and knows the end is near! I REALLY need to find a good home for her!!! Only 23k and loaded and CHERRY!!

NICE! Mine was built on 9/24/06, and is riding the high seas right now on board the ELECTRA! Hope the weather is fair and the seas are running with the ship! Damn - I thought it might be here sooner, but as long as it arrives, I am one happy driver.

How do you "find out" that your car is on a boat not affiliated with the WW line. If you can't track the the other shippers, for instance, who tells you it's on one of their boats?

Bremerhaven is in Germany. That may be what the hold up is.....they're having to make the extra trip over there for additional inspections that the regular MINI's don't have to.

My MA gave me the BOL# and ship. The BOL# started in NYK so that told me it was not WW. I called them and got a a person which was able to track me down in their system and confirmed the info from my dealer plus give me the additional info. There is no way to track on the NYK website though. Good luck all.

Brian,
All dealerships should be able to identify the GP roof number from the VIN or production number - if not, contact me and I can look it up (I have a copy of the same data file)

I'll bet my GP #1333 is on the same boat as yours!! I have the same production/completion date, and it's headed for CA! Cool stuff--I've only seen one GP in the flesh--at the Coronado Speed Festival--can't wait!

Eleanor has arrived!!!

After 7 months of waiting the day is here! GP 1690 has arrived in Indy and is getting all the bells and whistles put on this week. I'm flying out of Chicago (Nov 11th) Saturday morning at 8:05am and Eleanor will offically be in my grubby little hands by noon. I will post my long awaited first impressions when I get back in town!

MiniPapa's Lil Bomb came in last weekend at MOTW, Houston. It's been getting all fixed up all week. He can't wait to get it maybe tomorrow!

Picked up my GP yesterday #1577 (not 1333). Having lots of fun, already hit the twisties! Power feels great, even when holding it within break in limits. I can't imagine what it will be like when I can hit the high revs! My wife snapped a quick pic:
