RMW cam only

Hi there,

was wondering what power gains i can expect just from a RMW cam install + Tune, without the RMW header on a GP.

Reason I'm asking is cos i find that the header is too loud for my liking.

Thanks in advance.

Do you already have an RMW tune? That makes a difference in what you'll see. The tune is good for some amount of tq/hp, all other things being equal.

I had a tune done first, then added the cam, then later added the header. Did not dyno with just the cam, but I estimate it added 5-10 lb-ft of torque in the midrange. Then a bigger jump came when the header was bolted on... the header kinda unleashes the cam and lets it exhale....

Jan has a *quiet* exhaust that can retain all the power and quiet the header...

PM "THE ITCH" Jan tuned his stock GP and I think he had 204 or 205 at the wheels. I had the race header and exhaust and had 212 @ the wleels. I added the cam and a retune and had 219 @ the wheels. Not sure of anyone with just the cam on a GP. Call Jan or send him an email.

The inverted commas is what i'm afraid of! To be honest, i'm quite happy with the way the stock exhaust sounds. I wouldn't mind going a wee bit louder, but nowhere as loud as Jan's header.

5 - 10 ft lbs of torque and about 7 bhp.

Not too bad

The cam is way better than the Schrick I had in my 03-JCW car. Jans header with stock exhaust or a Milltek sounds fine to me.

How does the idle quality compare to a stock cam?

Very slight lope on mine - bumps around just a bit from about 730-800RPM - not obnoxious, and not something most folks notice... took me a while to really notice it, driving it every day. Kinda sexy, actually....

Mine is fine even with a/c on. There is a lump to the idle but not one that will cause any problems like the Schrick in hot weather.
