GP Road Noise Issues

I recently purchased a 06 Mini Cooper S GP as new with 855 miles and I have noticed that while driving on the street, there is more than above average road noise level radiating through the entire cabin of the car. I know this is normal because of the exclusion of the rear seats and some sound-absorbing materials including the use of runflat tires [Dunlop]... But does anyone know if there is a way to add the noise canceling or absorbing materials back [don't know which] or any trick without adding the back seats to the GP? I don't mind the weight penalty and a little compromise in the performance and I can change to a non-runflat tires. I'd like to keep the suspension system as stock if possible.......thanks in advance

I put heaps of Dynamat and sound deadening in my GP; it made a difference - but it's still not as quiet as a BMW!

I installed Fat-Mat (less expensive alternative to Dynamat but probably not as good) on all rear body panels (sides, floor, and battery compartment). It made a huge difference. However, it took a lot of time to cut pieces to fit all the unusual shapes and install the pieces. However, it was my first time working with the sound-deadening material.

I also took out the large styrofoam storage compartment insert from under the floor panel and used the newly gained space to store tools and other emergency supplies.

I agree with all the above.. Personally, I have never been bothered by it... I just keep the radio turned up ...

maybe have a powered sub installed.. that will really help

I never noticed it, even ripped off the bonnet insulation off GP. Of course previous MCS was on lowered springs stiffly set koni sports, 25.5 rear sway and front sway, with powerflex bushings all around and engine dampener. All I heard was my exhaust, even with radio (stock) full blast. Oh and removed all the exhaust sheilding, too. My GP sounds quiet as a mouse.

Thank you guys for the much needed info.....will be forever gratefull! I"ve checked out Dynamat Extreme (1.12 mm thick Dampers) and LComp (1/2'' thick Absorbers) as both combined apparently offers an excellent vibration , sound and noise attenuation . Will I be having problems fitting these combination in the GP (front & Rear) compartment especially in the carpetted area? Lastly, approximately how much sq. footage of material should I order...(.to include the sides and hatch) ? Thank you once again...bebs55

I did not use 1/2" thick absorber type material. I thought it was more than required. I used the 50 mil FatMat material only. I purchased the 50 sq ft pack. Here is a link to the website.
http://www.fatmat.com/bulk/fatmat/50.html

I only did the rear of the GP and had material left over however probably not enough to also do the front. I would suggest doing the rear first to see if that is enough for you. It made a big difference in my car. Also doing the front will be a lot more work if you are going under the carpet. I am not sure that the benefit would be worth the work.

Due to the expense and work, I would suggest a 3 phase approach. First the rear, second the front doors, and third the front floors. That way you can stop when the sound level meets your needs.
