Do I have a wheel hub problem?

I am currently drive a 2006 R53 S with 140k miles. Love it.

I have recently noticed that the rear passenger tire is very loud - like a roar. It gets louder the faster I drive. I took it to the tire shop and they said the tire is fine. I even replaced the tire (I replaced all of them because they were worn) and the same loud noise persists.

The only that makes the noise go away is when I swerve sharply to the right. It goes completely away when I swerve But as soon as the weight goes back onto that tire the loud noise returns.

Do you think I can solve this problem by replacing the rear wheel hub? Seems like an easy fix, but I'm not 100-percent sure that's the problem. Also, do I need to replace wheel hubs in pairs or can I just do one?

Sounds like a bearing/hub.

Jack up that side and spin the wheel, should be noisy.

axle nut for a rear??????

I don't think so ... OP said it was a REAR.

a standard check for a wheel bearing - in this case the entire hub - take the wheel off grab the hub at 3 and 9 o'clock and try to wiggle it. Try again at 6 and 12. Spin a couple of times and try again. If you get "wiggle" movement you need a new bearing/hub.

And swapping one side at a time is OK.

Oops glazed over the rear part, even easier then.

140k miles? Sounds like bearing/hub to me. I'd replace both sides..

From what your say it really sounds like a wheel bearing. We keep them in stock as we've been seeing more since these cars are getting older.

We also offer used ones to be a cost effective option.

Just curious what brand are the cost effective hubs?
