The 30 comments following the article pretty much nailed it. The writer (whose name I've already forgotten) must have been hard pressed for something to type about.
Nah I highly doubt BMW will squash the MINI marque because MINI has been doing very well over the last couple of years. Also even though it will be on the same platform almost all car companies do that. It started with American automobiles and then went around the world. They will also keep MINI going because BMW doesn't notice how the reception of the 0 series will be. If does just over the top well they might consider shutting MINI down but, if it flops well MINI endears. But the article also did sound a little bogus.
If that were true my friend Jim ( we met him at the LA MTTS 2008 festivities including a semi-private dinner at Ford's Filling Station, he even bought me a beer at Julian's) wouldn't be opening so many new dealerships: http://www.motoringfile.com/2009/11/...ew-us-dealers/
As long as MINI sales continue to grow and the bottom line is black, BMW would be a fool to eliminate it as a marque. Zero??? who knows what it will be.

Corrigan is blowing smoke up everyones arses. BMW will not eliminate MINI, it is a niche vehicle and sales are still strong. Also, with the tougher CAF standards that will be going into effect, BMW needs as many fuel efficient vehicles to improve their fleet mpg.
Check out Bimmer Magazine they list month to month ant quaterly sales figures and MINI fares pretty well against the other BMW models. So, my reaction is this story is complete bogus

Although, this reminds me of when I was 11, got interviewed by local news proclaiming, "Breaking will never die....ever!" Fast forward two years later I was saying the same thing about BMX, totally forgeting about the pop lock and skittles days. But, doubt thats the case for MINI. Feel bad for Pontiac and Saturn aficionados.

american cars totally got it bad. simply because they are american made lol.
the smaller extreme sports eventually die out. just look at x games stuff and paintballing especially, even airsoft guns and R/C cars.
but big stuff such as basketball, baseball, football, track&field, wrestling, volleyball, rock climbing, tennis, martial arts, modding cars. those things dont die
