House just approved another $2bil in Cash for Clunkers money. Woot for all the clunker drivers out there.

New Cube

Had an older Nissan Quest I got $4500 plus $350 scrap tade-in for a new Nissan Cube SL. What a FUN car! Of course, not as fun as our two MINIs. Everyone has asked if I like the Cube better than the MINI. I just glare at them for the answer. Also, the other question is "Are you gonna be going to Cube conventions now?" I don't think the Cube would be THAT much fun on The Dragon.

Long story short, I had been working a deal with the Nissan dealer and planned to close on the Cube last Friday. I got a phone cal about 8:45 PM Thursday night saying the program was getting shut down at 11PM c.s.t., so if I wanted to be sure to get the deal done I had to get it done Thursday night. I drove away from the dealer at 10:45 Thursday with the Cube. Whew! I was relieved, but then they re-started the program and looks like more $$$ will be added.

So now we are known on our street as the quirky but cool car owners.

I, for one, don't understand the design of the cube. Why does the glass wrap around the right rear? There is interior stuff there, so its not like is a nice see large see through canvas.

Well, why does the R56 Cooper S have a hood scoop? It's not functional.

Answer: it's for looks. Makes the car more interesting.

My R57 S has holes in its scoop which helps to get air out of the engine bay to keep the aid the cooling of the turbo after the car shuts down.

The glass wraps for just a quirky design. They claim it gives better visibility but the window still has pillars which can block the view. I know the wrapped window catches the eye of quite a few people because I see them in the rear view mirror at stop lights pointing and tracing the window design with their finger as they smile. On You Tube there are Japanese commercials that have the window wrapped the other way for the right hand drive.

The other fun quirky thing is the small circular shag carpet on the dash. It does a great job of holding my sunglasses as they don't slide across the dash when I turn. Besides, everyone needs a little shag in life. Think about it.

It's got the "funkiness" appeal to its design like the MINI, but leaves out the driving experience part. Nissan's betting there's a market of people who are okay with the latter part--I'm inclined to agree.

The Cube has been out for 10 or 12 years now. I was told it is a pretty hot seller in Japan. This is just the first year they were imported to the U.S. In fact, the Scion xB is a design ripoff to the Cube to compete with the Cube in Japan. The xB just made it to the states sooner.

There are some great Cube ads for Japan and other markets on You Tube.

Performance car? No. But fun? Yes!

We bought one as well for the 2nd vehicle. There seems to be quite a few Cooper/Cube owners. There's even a forum dedicated to it on one of the cubelife sites.

It's a great vehicle as well. Has some quirks like the Coopers and is cheeky in a far east sort of way

Can I order a new MINI and get the dealer to submit the $4,500 Cash For Clunkers rebate paperwork before I actually take delivery? I am prepared to pay cash for my new MINI. It would seem that once the car is built, and the dealer has the VIN, they could accept my clunker and cash - and since the sale would be complete except for delivery, they could get the rebate request submitted before the Cash For Clunkers money runs out. Has anyone done this yet?

You can not. The dealer needs to send the government a copy of the certificate of origin for the new car, and that document does not arrive until 1-2 days after the car has physically arrived at the dealership.

I just sold my clunker a few weeks ago but it didn't qualify for this plan. I traded in my clunker R56 for an R53.

Cash for Clunkers

Just another new guy to the forum ...09 Astro Black Mini Club S owner thanks to the "Cash for Clunkers" program.

Waited a lo.....ng time before we could finally buy one within budget with the options we wanted.

Roadhouse Mini (Memphis, TN) $1500 off MSRP (for all Clubman's in stock) + $4500 (Clunker Cash). No premiums. Didn't mind the drive from St.Louis for the savings. It was even better driving home in our new ride.

Ask for Carl....great guy....great service

Thanks for all the great posts from everyone. Been reading the forums on and off for the last year waiting for a price break.
