Extended Maintenance Plan-new MINI

I just got my Mini! A 2006 MC Silver! Fantastic!

But I have a slight tinge of buyers remorse on the Extended Maintenace plan
the finance guy sold me. He said it extended the Mini 3 year/36,000 Full Maintenance service to 6 years/100,000. $1500

He indicated I would need at least two services during this time which would total more then that including brakes, etc. New Clutch, wiper blades etc would just be bonus!

Sounds good - but as I try to figure out this official Mini warranty and service stuff, I see nothing about these "Services" I will need to have between year 4 and 6. It also seems like everything is driven by the CBS and so if I do not drive enough miles or CBS doesn't say I need anything until after 6 years.

Not that I can do anything about it after signing the contract- but was this a great deal like he said. A great deal, a good deal, a rip off or a complete crap shoot. I don't buy extended warranties, rather take my chances.

Really depends on how many miles you'll drive while owning the car. If you don't drive much, then it's probably not worth it. If you drive a lot, then maybe it will be worth it. There are a lot of factors, one being the "if something breaks" factor.
Too late now really, so don't sweat it. Just take advantage of every single thing that you can. Maybe have them give you a list of items you can ask for. Have the wipers replaced every year, oil changes when you can, tires rotated, whatever it takes to get your money's worth...

I purchased a 2006 XB one year ago. The finance guy sold me on the "maintenance contract" that would pay for the oil changes, tire rotation, spark plugs, and air filters and inspect the car for problems.

The biggest selling point that sold me on this was that it would keep my warranty valid.

I had 30 days to return the maintenance contract. Which i did as i learned that by law you don't have to have the dealer do the service. So i found a shop that would document all the services i needed (much cheaper than the dealer if you could imagine that is possible). The shop i took it to had the all the data on the shop computer regarding my car and everything that needed checking and replacing)

I realize my car is not a mini but i think since it sounds like you didn't buy an extended warranty that you probably only have them service the car at 15,000 miles and 30,000 miles. Then your warranty will have expired then it really makes no since to have the dealer do the service after that as if anything is wrong, you would probably not have the dealer do the work anyway, as it would be double the cost of an average shop (maybe i could be wrong)

If i was you i would find a local shop that would give you an estimate on what each service would cost and spend the 1500.00 toward an extended 100,000 mile warranty. not a maintenance contract. I would also call different dealers to see if you get the warranty at cheaper prices as i got my XB 100,000 warranty for half of what the dealer who sold me the car wanted. ($800. factory warranty with no deductible and loaner car)

I am almost positive you can get your money back on this if you haven't used the service and its less than 30 days from the purchase.

Good luck to you. but thats what i would do but i am not an expert on mini's i just purchased an 02 last week. so what do i know.

But for some people its worth having all the documentation from the dealer to show people when you sell the car. it could be worth it but i doubt it.

Is this true in most/all states? I live 3 hrs from my MINI dealer, and if I could get simple services like oil changes and such locally rather than having to take a weekend and make a trip of it, yet it would still be covered, that would be very convenient. I don't have an extended warranty, so would like apply to the regular warranty?
