I finaly got pulled over for speeding today. I was zipping down hwy 3 near my house trying to get to blockbuster before the movie that i wanted was gone. My digital spedo read 77 and i look up and there is this hpd officer passing me. I look back in my rearview and he bust the U. I know i am getting poped for speeding and i totaly don't mind. I wait untill he lights up and then i pull over all nice like. He chuckles as he walks up to my car " those things can go i see" In my mind i play over and over how to ask a cop if i can race his crown vic without getting busted for soliciting. He then drops on me that he clocked me for 80??? I dont get it both my speedos tell me im a cool 77 but his stuff sez 80. I ponder this as he sits in his car writting up my ticket. I quick text to my wife the situation and she was releived that he didnt clock me for awhole lot more and she said it was bound to happen. Still pondering the 3 mph diffrence and holding my cell phone the office approches my car again to give me all my paperwork back. He informs me he cut me a brake and only wrote me for 75???? I casualy ask him how fast he first clocked me and then he said 82???? Then he saw the cell phone in my hand and freaked out(seriously freaked out) he accused me of video tapeing our conversation and ran(RAN(RAN(RAN))) back to his car??? Should i fight this or just accept my first ticket? :impatient
blh
A cop said something similar to me but I think it was "I bet they can go fast and I bet you were checking it out". Was going 77, saw him and ripped the brakes (not soon enough), and he clocked me at 73 in a 55. He knocked it down to 65 and said go to court, plead guilty and it will be dismissed. I stood in line 2 hours to talk to a prosecutor for 5 seconds. It was dismissed though.
All depends on what the speed limit is -- were you in a 55, 65, or 75 mph zone? Over 20 is a big ding on your record.

That cell phone was not a good move - any officer is looking out for his/her saftey - any move with something in your hand can go wrong in a heart beat. keep hands in plain view and hope for the best... We do not know what that office just came from or what else may be going on in the area - your car just may match someting from a crime that just happened -
I do agree, go to court if you can - nothing to loose - or traffic school... anything to reduce $$ or points is a Good idea..

Where are you located? I live here in League City next to Clear Lake. I always find the cops around Seabrook and Kemah to be the worst. But since my radar detector I have not gotten a ticket. (knock on wood)
i realy want a v1 but its 399, i am asking for one for christmas.(like i am going to get one) and the more i think about it i want to fight it. I got it from 1959 on bayarea blvd. Does anyone know where i could get a cheeper v1 that still works??
a V1 is sooo much cheaper than all the tickets it will save you from. Yes, it's a big investment but when you consider the costs of tickets and insurance increases, it's a bargain.

I remember my first ticket. The CHP officer said, "Glad you car can go that fast." I learned a good lesson. I was so much over that I ended up losing my license for 3 months. Now im the one on the freeway getting passed. Better safe then sorry... or worst not sorry and dead.

I got my first one in early Sept. 76 in a 55. In Virginia that's a heavy Duty fine, criminal reckless driving, somewhere between $2,000 and $3,000. You are lucky you can use radar detectors, they are illegal in the wonderful Commonwealth of Virginia. We can't even buy them or have them shipped into the state. 2 more months and we are out of this pit.

I'm not sure what you'd be fighting, the ticket says 75 and you've admitted to going 77. If 75 is still fast enough to warrant a ticket in whatever zone you were traveling in then I don't see what the clocked speed really has to do with it whether you agree with it or not. Am I missing something?

Here in western NY state, when you fight a ticket it almost always gets reduced. One time I get to the 5:00 night court and the first thing they announce is the standard offer for speeding violations. It was different based on how much over you were clocked. I was 18mph over and walked away with a $65 fine and non-moving violation in less than an hour. Another time I was cited for 77 in a 45 (which was total #$%!). I explained the scenario to the DA and walked away with a $110 fine and one point. This also took less than an hour.
Goes to show that it's always best to challenge a ticket and that it doesn't necessarily require a "fight."

I am never ever moving to Virginia. I got 76 in a 55 in Mississippi and it was $125. Speed limit was 70 and I missed the dramatic speed drop because a PT loser was ghosting me for 20 miles and annoying the crap out of me.
I got my first ticket (in the MINI anyway) on Sunday on the way to a MINI club event no less. I got popped for 67 in a 45 :( The cop was nice and asked a bunch of questions about the car and our club. He said to go to court, be nice to the judge and he's sure Ill get it reduced. *sigh*
All 3 times I've been stopped they did not know what it was and had to ask for clarification. I got a parking ticket at school for having my tag around the wrong way and the make was "UNKNOWN". Rad.
