2009 Can-Am 50th Anniversary Mini Challenge Race (Classic Mini)
Hello Mini Racing Enthusiasts!
As many people are already aware, 2009 is the 50th Anniversary of the Mini, and a very special Classic Mini 50th Anniversary Can-Am Mini Challenge Race is being organized to commemorate this important milestone in the Mini’s history. Mark your calendar for June 27th & 28th, 2009 for two full days of exciting racing action!
The race will be held at Brainerd International Raceway, Brainerd, MN on the newly completed 2.5 mile 13 turn road course (without the drag strip). The race is open to all Classic Minis, and selected Mini-powered variants (Moke, Wolseley, Unipower, Mini Marcos, etc.), that are race prepared to any vintage or current safety specifications. There will be several classes to accommodate the differing levels of car performance. There will be no restrictions on car weight or performance modifications for this event.
The event theme will be "Can-Am", with drivers from Canada & the United States challenging each other for the CanAm trophy! Several historically significant Minis will be in attendance, such as the GT5 winning Fortech Mini of Seven Enterprises, which will be driven by Doug Peterson, the amazing rear wheel drive Huffaker Mini to be driven by Joe Huffaker, and many other important Vintage Minis & drivers from all over North America.
The race is co-hosted and sanctioned by the Phil Wicks Driving Academy, who will be featuring a full complement of North American MINI Cooper Challenge cars competing in their own NAMCC series races over the weekend. A guest of honour will be the current European MINI Challenge champion. The Academy will also feature the very popular Driving Academy Training for street prepared Minis & MINIS. Bring out your street car for a weekend and improve your driving confidence & skills on the race track with expert instruction from Phil Wicks and his team of experienced driving instructors! Lunchtime parade laps will be available for those not taking part in the driver training.
Additional Mini/MINI-related optional activities are available nearby immediately following the Mini Challenge by participating in the 50th Celebration Mini/MINI Meet – East Meets West 2009 in Winona, MN, June 29th to July 2nd, 2009.
