MSSD Midnight Run - Recon Team!

Gang - I'd like to coordinate a "recon" team for the Midnight Run - this involves driving the Dragon before midnight, ensuring there's no debris, abandoned vehicles, etc. to deal with, and ideally leaving some scouts / course marshals along the Dragon to watch out for oncoming traffic or LEOs and sound an alert via radio. Jason has OK'd this.

Ideally we'd have enough folks to station someone at each of the significant pull-offs. I volunteer for the Tabcat Bridge spot. At a minimum, we need 3-4 cars to do this well, but could use more. Ideally you need a GMRS radio (the high power variant of the FRS radios) with a 15ish mile or more claimed range (which might be good for a mile or two in the mountains). If you want to volunteer but don't have a radio, we'll find you one.

Please let me know if you're willing to help with this.

So far, gaminis and Drillslinger have volunteered to help out. Any others?

I'm planning a small memento (NOT Mentos) for those who drive recon. Better than a sack of burning dog poop, but nothing to write home about.

No worries dude, I'm looking forward to it for a number of reasons... I don't meet new people unless forced and of course, I didn't get to "Test" the DIY Cyclops driving light I put together for the last midnight run

Hmmm... maybe YOU should hang just past Tabcat - you could shine the Cyclops up the road and I'm sure you'd ensnare any approaching TN LEO for the half hour or so needed to get everyone safely on their way...

I figured it would work/look better than if I strapped one of those 1 Million Candle power floodlights to the roof

I thought originally you were going to mount it near the front? Though I think it's cool back there - do you have a remote on/off switch?

Nope. I just plug it into the rear 12V socket and blind..er, I mean Shine away

We tried plugging it in up front but it was a PITA keeping the cord out of the way. But you bring up a good point. I think I'll have to rethink my plan
