09 JCW -used - need advice

Guys- This is my first post but I've been browsing this forum for months waiting for my first Mini to present itself.

I would like to know what you think I should pay for this...2009 Chili Red JCW, 9K miles, cold pkg, suspension, xenons, MINI HiFi, foglights, bluetooth USB/Ipod, panoramic sunroof, muli-function steering wheel, etc.

This was a one owner car with clean Carfax offered from a Chevy Dealer.

I'm buying from out of state, which has me nervous about used car salesman.

The window stick has a Suggested Retail at $33,900. When making the deal, any advice?

Can wait to joint the JCW group!

Blackbart in Ohio!

I would not recommend this car. Take a look at the 09 Subie WRX.

Use the used car appraiser on Edmunds.com

http://www.edmunds.com/tmv/used/index.html

Using your info and my zipcode I get a private party price of about 26,700 and a dealer price of 28,500. Since it's not a mini dealer it should be somewhere in between IMO besides, negotiate. They're hurting for sales especially in used cars. Now that that idiotic Cash for Clunkers scheme is over they're gonna really be hurting and they know it.

If you get serious, ask that you take it to a Mini dealer for independent verification. Carfax only goes so far; trust but verify.

Thanks everyone. The dealerships are hurting - it's listed at $25,995 and he admitted he needs $25K. Including tax and title back in Ohio, that likely a $26,700 total price. From the Carfax, they've had this car for 3 months. I'll probably arrange to fly-in and preview.

I'd be all over it too. I might look for a similar deal in 2 months time.

If he admitted that then you're probably close to his bottom line but that's probably not his real bottom line, IMHO.

Unless this car has the JCW aero kit, this car listed for under $33K, so a $26K would not be bad, but if this is where he is at price wise, I'd still off $24K and see what happens. I'd love to find a deal like this next year.

Besides carfax you should take the VIN and call a Mini dealer with it. The service dept will run it,and tell you its service record. It could be that its been in 17 times to get the window dipper fixed?

Great idea - I will call the local dealer and ask them to look for issues using the VIN. The car does not have the Aero Kit... we'll see what happens...Thanks all.

Having a Mini dealer check the VIN, and doing a CarFax, both would be a good idea. Hey, even if it does appear to be a great deal, if this car had been thru the ringer with problems, then it's not such a good deal. There was a guy here that had a multitude of problems a few weeks back that said that he kept the car four weeks, I think. Right, he traded it off. Don't know where he was from though.

Most people may have little problems, shucks what car doesn't, but the vast majority have no problems at all, except knowing where they can put their foot in it, and where not to. Have fun.

If it is in as new condition, I think 25k would be a steal. I paid 34k new for mine. 9k off sticker for only a 9,000 mile car sounds good.

Gents - Just by looking, how can you tell a Mini was a "Factory JCW" or a dealer installed option (lower horsepower, right?)

Right, VIN, Brembo brakes, Alantracite headliner, but the check with VIN is the best.

Hmmm... I wish my AMG would sell so I could start shopping.

At 25k, I would buy it. That is a great deal. I was at 26 and change +TTL, on a similiar 09. But didin't have the HiFi.

Car dealer's Ebay auction that was in its last hours...many messages back and forth to the sales person... their advertisement had undersold the options that were only discovered when I asked for a copy of the window sticker. Post "Cash for Clunkers", this Chevy dealer (JCW trade-in) explained that they really had to move this car. Knowledge is everything - they did not know about NAM! -or someone else would have beat me to this car!! The value of this forum cannot be estimated. I was a member of Audiworld for years. Like here, the guidance saved me $1000's and made the whole ownership experience more enjoyable and satisfying. I gladly spent hours helping strangers. Like many here, I find great satisfaction helping others when I can. Cheers!
