hey boys. to get better airflow, do you think it would be safe to completely remove my hood scoop grille (a few of the holes are plugged up) or would that have some negative effect to my car that i am not seeing?
I figure that by doing this not only will i get better airflow but also, at stops, the turbo will emit its heat quicker out of the scoop if there is no grille.
hmmm, interesting. i understand that visually it might look better with the grille, but i dont understand why Mini decided to plug up some of the holes...
anyways, was it easy to remove the hood scoop grille for you guys?
There are a few different options... some people put different mesh in the grilles place, I chose to mask off the hood and paint the area under the hood scoop black. My car is dark silver, so it works ok.
i put it also off, when the scoop started melting and i got a new scoop, but after a while i decided to open the closed parts of the grill instead, looks nicer i think
Mines been out for quite a while to allow more air to my M7 Super AGS. no problems so far... just have to wash the car down the hood, not up into the scoop lol.
Also painted the lip inside there black so you cant see it... bent it down slightly too just to keep it open more.
I may put it back in once the snow comes and all the salts on the road...keep some of it from all going in there on the freeway
Similar to Ron's question --- has anyone had the stock hood scoop melting problem, then change the scoop, remove the scoop grill and NOT have the melting problem recur? Is this a possible solution to the melting scoop?
