Test Drove a 09 JCW-trying to work a deal.

I started a thread on how to justify the purchase of a 09 JCW.

Let me just after my test drive. I am now able to justify it. And if I can get the right price, I'll be a new owner of one.

I went to the dealer to test drive a 09 JCW in pepper white, black roof. Loaded as follows-premium, winter, convenience, xenons, and rear fog light. Stickered at 32,xxx.

Car is in great shape inside and out and only has 11,000miles. My father is a body man, and car checked out clean.

As far as the test drive went, it went well. The shifter and clutch feel is superb. As long with everything else. Nothing new there, though. As far as power? I expected a bit more thrust to be honest, the 06 Factory JCW would lite 'em from a roll and rev extremely fast. Then I had to keep in mind, between me, my dad, and the salesman there was 700lbs of human being in payload.

Handling was stellar as always, and ride was fine, a bit choppy at times but nothing I couldn't handle.

Well, now for the bad. I instantly noticed the JCW rims are not on the car, and they do not have them. Some pos ASA wheels are on the car. And I think it may have a aftermarket exhaust. I know with the 06 it had Cooper works etched in the tailpipes is it the same for the 09? Also there is a flex joint, circa around the down pipe. U can't ever recall a flex joint like this on a stock exhaust. Almost looked like a test pipe.

When it came time to make the deal, I first wanted to find out about the exhaust. So it is getting checked by their tech this morning. And hopefully they can get the wheels, as I read on here they are 2500 dollars.

Right now I have them at 27,200 + TTL.

It is my second color choice, BRG is first, and is pretty much how I would have ordered it, except I wouldn't get a moon roof.

What do you all think?

Even if I don't get this one, I am confident to say this time around I am going to get a JCW.

deduct $2500 from the $27,200 (for the absent wheels) and I think y'll get a good deal. and yes the JCW exhaust has etchings on the top of both tailpipes.

Okay then for sure it has an aftermarket exhaust too. That kind of tees me off. Cuz there were no etchings. And it honestly looked like it had no cat.

Factory JCW exhaust tips do not have the etching on them, that's been discussed here many times. Not sure about the flex joint thing, I've never really looked that closely at mine. I too am a fan of the OEM JCW wheels. I know they're not the lightest available but they're within reason and look great to me. Pricing is tough right now. Used car prices are still pretty tanked I think and I'd like to think $25K would be a better price for the one you're looking at.

Yep, this thread: http://www.northamericanmotoring.com...-pictures.html
Post 1 & 3 show the stock '09 exhaust. Further down you'll see the dealer kit that has the etching. I like ours more for its exit size and cut angle, tho I do wish it had etching too.

Need your guys opinion. I got him to come another 500 off the car, and he is getting the JCW wheels for me.

Should I pull the trigger?

It is exactly the way i would order it, except it has a moonroof, and no Hi-Fi.

I have almost the exact same car that I am looking to have someone take over my lease. Options are Pepper White with black sport stripes, cold weather package, rear fog lights, cream color line, and multi-function steering wheel. The lease is only $397/month for another 22 months. My buyout is also right around $27k and I have less miles on the car (about 8,200 right now) with 37k miles left for 22 months, or about 18.5k miles/year. Not sure where you are located, but you can check my craigslist ad for more details and send me an email if you have any questions:

I'm sure the $29K included sales tax and any fees associated with buying a car in his state, he'll have to pay that on whatever car he buys.

Yah, I hate putting cash out of pocket. I'd rather use the banks money.

We were at 26,500 +TTL. Decent deal but not spectacular. If they get me at 27k out the door I will buy it. The rates at my credit union cannot be beat.

Did you put money down or have a trade in? Just curious.

Did you get the factory wheels, the original owner still has them.

Ha! I just sent you a PM.

I had a trade w/ title in hand. We backed into the price. I gave them my trade and told them where I wanted the payment to be. I didnt know the final sale price til I got into the finance office to sign all the papers. I knew what my car was worth. I knew what my payment would cover. I knew they were gonna have to come down in price. I just didnt know what they had in the car or how hungry they were. Ended up just over $26 out the door.

What was the sales price if you don't mind me asking. You can pm if you wish.

Congrats on the car btw. It was in good shape. Just hope you got the factory wheels from them.

The JCW wheels were absent? You suspect the exhaust is aftermarket?

I'd very very suspicious about it even being a real JCW.

The gear shifter have red numbers? Is there a little checkered flag above the glove box? Those would be easy to fake, but if they are missing then you should run away.

I called Mini w/ the VIN # to check authenticity, and service record. The exhaust is stock. The only difference is the rims, and the rear calipers are painted to match the fronts. I am disappointed in the rims and would rather have the original. Im sure at the price they charge they are forged where as the ASA rims are cast. The ASAs look good though, and I love the car

They gave me $18k for my trade.

So is it a JCW? Rear calipers should be colored matched from the factory... mine are.

The OEM JCW wheels are cast not forged. They are neither the lightest or heaviest OEM MINI wheels, I just think they look good and set the model apart somewhat.
