1.6L 2009?

I heard a few places that the JCW motor is a 1.6L and not at 1.4L. I was always under the understanding that it was a 1.4L with a bigger turbo on it. I can't seem to find too much info on it which leads me to beleive it is a 1.4L but I was just curious. Anyone with a JCW want to enlighten me?

Hi~Yes, it is a 1.6L. All 2009 (and probably from 2007+) from the Cooper up are 1.6L according to MINI.

The R56 JCW is the same engine as the R56 Cooper S. The major differences are the pistons, head, and turbo. MotoringFile had an article on this. But the bottom line is they both use the same 1.6L lump. The JCW is more tuned and refined for performance.

All current MINIs have a 1.6L 4 cyl.

If you're talking US production, I believe all Mini's are 1.6L engines, normally aspirated from the Cooper and either supercharged (gen1) or turbo'ed (gen2) for the S. The JCWs were just hopped-up versions of the S.

The only 1.4L engines were in Euro production (the Mini One, not sold in the USA).
