Happy motor - Stock '09 JCW Dyno

My 2009 Factory JCW built in May/09 is 99% stock. -The only powertrain modifications is a lower engine mount insert and a scanguage. I have the scangauge programmed to show Boost with -14.7 offset of MAP. I was also displaying Water and Air temps while dynoing. Sport on / TC off (1 second press).

Things to note:

1. Two cars before mine was a 2008 R56 (stock) which pulled 172/196 hp/tq which is expected and seen may times on this forum. From that I figure the dyno is at least acurate to within %5.

2. First pull the scangauge reported 20.5 psi at +/- 4500 rpm. Second pull the scangauge showed 19.5psi at +/- 4500 rpm. You can see it on the dyno sheet very well.

3. Outside temps are hot today. THe car read 86 degrees F while humidity is 60% here in muggy atlanta.

4. Scangauge showed PEAK temperatures of 220 F for Water and 175 F for intake air temp. - For sure our cars need upgraded intercoolers!!

5. The dyno operator did not have a working A/F gauge. The dyno day was $40 for two dyno runs. The dyno was a DynoJet brand and to operator owns www.dynolab.net. Runs were performed in 4th gear.

6. HP above 200 from ~5000-6000. TQ above 200 from ~2200 to ~5500

Run 1: 216.1 HP and 230.9 TQ
Run 2: 213.9 HP and 226.7 TQ

Being more observant... I noticed the boost pressure hits 18+ PSI at just before 3000RPM, and then drops back to 14psi by the time 4000 RPM comes along. Then at 4500 the boost spikes up again to ~20psi and holds until about 5500 RPM, then drops down to ~14 by the time redline comes along. I can replicate this on the street in 3rd or 4th gear.

The intake air temp of my secnd run started at ~100F at idle, and quickly peaked at 175F by redline - Thats 0 to 75 increase in 10 seconds. Once I let off the intake temp dropped back to 120F in abount 30 seconds.

I could not operate the Electronic Locking Diff while on the dyno. I think all the airbag, ABS, and TC lights were disabling electronic systems. Even the power-steering felt different when I drove off the dyno. Restarted car and everything was back to normal.

Is that at the wheel or 'corrected' for BHP?

Welp I am not really the dyno expert when it comes to manipulating the numbers and figures outputted by the dyno... From the looks of it the dyno was pretty standard - strap the car down and go.

Most of the other cars were Honda S2000s, but there was one R56. I wasnt actually going to run my car but then the stock R56 showed up. I dynoed my old R56 on a different Dynojet and it got 174hp. The R56 on this day got 172/196 at the wheels which you see very commonly on nam. None of the Honda S2000s got over 200hp at the wheels, and they were only getting 140-160tq. There was also an RX8 that got ~170hp/135tq but supposedly the car needed new plugs and coils.

One Honda Del Sol sohc got 80/75. The highest of the day was a c4 Vette with a 383 stroker, standalone, and open exhaust - 400hp.

In any case with whatever settings the dyno operator was running; the difference between my car and the R56 was dramatic - Over 35hp and 35tq more.

I'm asking because if that is at the wheels it is VERY high for stock. If it's BHP then it sounds just a little bit low compared to others I've seen although still higher than MINIs "rated" power.

It may be high TQ for stock, but my JCW dyno'd 214HP, 219TQ to the wheels, so it doesn't seem that high to me.

Guys, you have to remember that when we list dyno numbers, we always show "peak" which is great for showing off but if you look at the curve, it shows a different aspect.

For instance, the OP's graph shows a "spike/peak" at the 230 tq from 4300 to 4600 rpms, roughly 300 rpms.

The real "average" power was roughly 210/220 tq from 4000-5200rpms.

Not dissin' his numbers (it's great for a bone stock car) at all but you can't really say an engine is making xxx tq when it's for 300 rpms.

Now, when he goes and gets it tuned, it will streeeeetch that powerband out for a MUCH larger RPM band. I'd love to see what your car will do with a tune.

I would guestimate with a tune, you'll be pulling 225/230 WHP and 240/250 WTQ... very fantasticical....

I just came back from another dyno tune now with numbers for performance modifications. I've installed a Forge intercooler, charge pipe, hi flow air filter, and noise maker delete.

Please see details here:
