Anyone "ordering" a new JCW using the "cash for clunkers" program? My dealer will not do it. Have to select from there inventory, but they have no JCW's. They would have to obtain a JCW's from another dealer. Of course I have my own ideas on what I want, and I'm sure they will not be able to locate from nearby regions (I've looked on line). I may check with them again since it appears the Feds are going to allow "vouchers" for cars being ordered; since dealers (not just Mini) are running low on inventory.
Wow, that's weird that the dealer won't let you order. I ordered an MCS and used the CC program when I took delivery w/o a problem. You might contact other dealers just to make sure that this is a something that all dealers are doing or just yours.
There is no restriction in the federal program guidlines that would prevent you from ordering a car. I think many dealers are worried that they will sell a car with the discount and not get paid when they submit for it a month from now.
The dealer can't submit for payment until you take posession of your new car. I just used the CARS program to trade a rat plow truck for a new Clubman. The dealer was ale to see many more cars than I could, including the cars in port ordered by other dealers and also cars that are still awaiting shipment. I wanted to order one too, but the dealer was able to find one that worked out for me (after about 2 hours of hunting).
It would be much nicer if you could surrender your car and get a voucher rather than leave the paperwork up to the dealer. I have not heard of any plans for a voucher though.
I understand this was legal requirement (buying from stock) - but heard on the news it has just been changed because of the low stock of cars at dealerships. Do a internet search on this and I would contact the dealer again.
I read the actual program documents, they are availabe at cars.gov and/or fueleconomy.gov There is also a section in the FAQ for the dealers. It's a good idea to read them yourself if you're planning to use the program.
There is no mention one way or the other about dealer stock. It simply specifies that the car must be new (never titled) and get a minimum MPG to qualify for the program. Then the relinquished car has to meet certain criteria to determine what amount (if any) the dealer will receive.
It will take 5-6 weeks for delivery if you order right now. By then, the CFC program will be history.
Agree with the other posts, the dealership can view inventory at other dealers and also at the port. You can also search online dealer inventory at other locations for JCW's. Perhaps one will be close to your desired build, and can be shipped.

I agree. I read an article today that estimates the CARS program will be over around Labor Day. Better move quick. I just put a deposit down on my dream car today
I got a 2009 JCW Clubman from the dealer 2 days ago taking advantage of the CARS program. My clunker was a 1999 Police inceptor crrown vic.

I was wondering how the dealers were treating this. They didn't jack up the price to compensate for the clunkers program?
At least this program working because GM hired a bunch of people back. Lets hope the momentum keeps moving us forward.

I can say they did not jack up prices at Morristown Mini. I'm getting a black 2009 JCW w/ Premium and Cold Weather packages, armrest, and chrome exterior. Price before my clunker trade is $32,950, which is what a JCW with those options has been priced at all year, if not less.
The price of my clubman was on the window sticker from delivery in December of last year, no change.
Since the dealers are getting the money from the program they are not getting any less for the car, no need to 'compensate'. They also get to keep $50 of your trade-in scrap value (and maybe the whole amount if they fail to mention it to you).
Bought a 2009 jcw prem pak with armrest 30800 msrp for 27900 and cfc 4500 for my trashed 700,000 mile ram ,took advantage of the mini july promo rate 0.9 for 48 months.
