Question for the factory JCW car owners (exhaust)

Is the exhaust tip stepped or same diameter as it goes into the muffler?

I ask because on the JCW engine kit exhaust the tip is stepped. the outer diameter is very big (4" or so) but the actual exhaust opening is about the same as the stock MCS.

I seem to recall seeing a pic of a factory JCW car and it looked like the exhaust is wide open.

Can someone with a JCW take picture of the exhaust opening and post it?

thank you

The exhaust with your JCW Kit is the same that comes on the factory 09 JCW Minis

I don't believe this is correct.

it's not correct.

The Stage 1 kit is "stepped", the factory exhaust isn't.

And they both sound different

Off the wall question for anyone that might know..... any reason why a full factory JCW exhaust wouldn't sound the same on a JCW tuning kit car?

Thank you. that is what I wanted to know. I've been reading that the factory JCW exhaust is a bit different and the sound is different from the kit JCW exhaust.

The exhaust is different and the sound is different due to the 09 JCW ECU and all the physical changes in the JCW engine.

My friend and I did a number of compares when doing work on his 09 JCW and my 07 MCS. Currently he is leaving his JCW exhaust stock as it is better than most of the aftermarket. He has considered a DP update. Current changes are the Helix IC which has made the most difference in drivability (reduced heat soak).

I changed my MCS to the ED cat-back with resonator delete. It is a nice exhaust for a reasonable amount of $$

yeah i get some pops and burbles and the backfires from time to time . but it sounds pretty good to me. i would like a catless dp when the o2 sims are complete and working 100%. my forge ic i just got on but i know its working , in the winter is when you really feel them down here when the temps get down in the 50s. i had a alta ic on my 07 and it worked great just didnt like cutting and trimming up the holes in the front.

I had my resonator taken off and a straight pipe welded in place. The sound and pops and backfires are greatly enhanced especially in SPORT mode.

Love it, cheap mod and coupled with the DDM Works Race intake and K&N filter CAI box, I hvave noticed a huge performance increase, no longer use the sport button much...don't have to!

The sport button changes the relative input of the throttle pedal, it does not increase power. It also allegedly tightens the steering ratio slightly. Your mods MAY increase power, the sport button does not.

the sport button doesn't tighten the ratio of the steering, but it lessens the amount of assistance the power steering provides. It also enhances the fuel dump on overrun (which causes the backfiring). It also makes the throttle response quicker as was mentioned above...
