DTC - What does it do exactly?

Ok so I've read the owners manual several times and cannot figure out how the DTC function is beneficial to me. When LSD terminology was used in earlier models I could understand the function much easier.

Part of my problem is that I cannot understand British english so well (in the manual), and part of it is knowing whether DTC is a help or a hindrance.

From what I read and what I tried, if I press the button once and release quickly, the display on the TACH shows one symbol (and something happens), and if I press it and hold it 3 seconds there appears to be something else happening.

So when I start the car, is it on or off? Is that a good thing or a bad thing?

What steps do I take to get it to the setting that is most beneficial for the driving conditions I have (i.e curves, dry, wet, etc).

How do I know if it's on or off or in some half-way between level? There is no light that I can see on the button like the sport mode button.

Is JCW different than MCS on this feature or is it the same?

So confused now but excited to learn. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Regardless, the confusion leaves my mind as soon as I get in this car and drive. Just thinking about driving gets me smiling. Is it Christmas time? Nope, its minitime!

See my second post here:

The JCW has a EDLC, which works like an electronic LSD when both DSC and DTC are turned off. This is an option on MCS (as is the LSD)

You should try working with a "smart" English programmer. You think this car's controls are confusing...after spending 5 minutes with him as he explains a technical implementation to me makes me feel like putting a bullet through my brain. What I can explain in 2-3 sentences, takes him 10 minutes of mind numbing Englishspeak. OY Vey .

EDIT:His websites are JUST AS confusing! I'm not sure if he's just too smart, or I'm too dumb or he's dumb but "speaks" intelligently LOL
