Side Scuttle Removal

After doing some detail searching on this forum I couldnt come across a decent write up on the installation of putting on new side scuttles. I just got new ones for my JCW Clubbie and wanna swap them out. All I have is the dealerships directions and they are not even in english....whats up with that!!!!hahahahah. If anyone has a simle way to do this process...please share. tHANKS!

Is that the side marker lights? if so, I think I read that they just snap out from the rearward side...maybe have to slide forward too... but it is supposed to be really simple. it is probably even in the manual.

You can either poke it out from inside or carefully pop out the transparent lens and pull it out.

Sorry about your search attempts, but there are a million threads in the 2 gen thread, and exterior/interior thread.

Very easy swap. I have done mine. You just push the scuttles forward. It will take some force. Twist out the light bulbs, and put them in the new holders. Push them back in (yes with force).

My passenger-side scuttle fell out on its own the other week. Popped it back in when I noticed...piece a sh*t.

Pop open the bonnet, push forward on the scuttle. It comes out with just a little force.

I'm about to swap mine for the JCW scuttles today or tomorrow. I had the carrier painted white and am just waiting on the JCW scuttle to come in at parts.

Got my new JCW scuttles installed today, with the carriers custom painted white to match my CR/W MINI. The gascap is also painted white.

It's an easy mod and one I really like. I just hate the chrome side scuttles. I bought the JCW one's the day after I got the car. I much prefer the look of the JCW's....

Your Mini looks awesome !! I saw another thread where you mentioned the JCW aero kit. Are you thinking about getting it? The only thing holding me back on that kit is the price... ouch!

I will get the kit later this year or early next year. The only customization of it I have planned is to paint the intake bullets on the side skirts white.

Has anyone else had a problem with the scuttle falling out? I just noticed that my passenger side scuttle is gone. I checked the other one and I was able to pull it straight out after scooting it back. Like a poster above said, POS

I'm thinking about glueing it in there.

Not here. I really appreciated the instructions on removal and installation of new scuttles. I've popped on (literally) the JCW scuttles and they really are nice.

Regarding the new JCW scuttles coming off, I lost one on my first set. I put some silicon caulk on the back side of the assembly where the center "hooks" connect to the outer holder on the second set. This caulk cannot be seen once the assembly is installed and so far I have not had another incident the center falling off.

Be sure to glue, caulk or Bubbleyum them scuttles into the holders. I too lost a passenger side scuttle after one month. I have read about at least a half dozen others having them catch some wind. Got my new set today. A little thermosetting epoxy should fix the problem until 2035.

Good thread!

I recently purchased the side scuttle carrier and the black jack set on Amazon.com.

However they do not come with the clear lense/lamp assembily. does anyone know the part number I need to get that lense or lamp assembily? I have the orange lamp currently, I'm thinking that I would like to make it clear but I don't know what I need.

Can anyone offer advise in that regard? Thanks in advance.

Do you need to purchase the side scuttle carrier in order to install the JCW inserts? Or can the OEM piece be used - pop out the factory inserts and install the JCW mesh insert?

Thanks.
