My new mini comes in a couple of weeks - a couple questions

I'm super excited. It's a F55 Justa. I've done a bunch of research about questions I have, but still have some remaining.
  1. According to the vin decoder, I'm getting runflat tires. I live in New Hampshire, and am planning on putting snow tires on in a couple of months. Do I have a spare tire with the car, or do I need to get runflat snows? (or risk a flat).
  2. I've got Navi XL. Does anyone know if Windows Media playlists are supported? I read that .flac files are, which is great. Now just need to figure out how to setup my playlists so I can load everything onto the car.

Thanks!

If you look in the VIN decoder, the spare should be S300A.

Found code 300 EMERGENCY WHEEL. Since they probably don't mean an emergency steering wheel, it looks like I can drop the run flats. Thanks!

I haven't done much with playlists. I've looked on other forums and the .m3u and .m3u8 files work. People do have trouble with them.

Some report only playlists with relative file names work.
Some have better luck with .m3u8.
Try to keep your folder tree simple.
When you have lots of files and folders, it can take a long time for the car to process everything [minutes or hours?].

The spare is under the car, BTW, like on a truck.

Welcome...and congrats!

If you got the all season run flat tires...then there is no need for snow tires. You're ready for winter!

negative. All-seasons just aren't meant for snow. You won't be able to go, stop, or turn nearly as well as you will with a dedicated winter tire. Winter tires will outperform the all-season on snow, ice, slush, and cold pavement.

If you live in an area that might see snow maybe once a year, then yeah I'd probably skip on winter tires too though.

Fully agreed, which is why I ordered the summer tires, and will be putting on winters :-) I would rather have ideal warm weather tires in the summer and ideal cold weather tires in the winter, then one that compromises in both conditions.

This video by tirerack really shows the difference:

I've never had any problems with the all season tires in the snow (in Wisconsin). The only issue is the ground clearance of the car.

I suppose if it was in the budget it would be nice to have mounted sets of tires for both summer and winter use.

I assume that you're going to have a mounted set of winter tires. If this is the case are you just going to ignore the tire pressure monitoring system for winter, or will you have this operational as well?

i have an extra set of wheels for the winter and did not bother with the TPMS sensors. yeah, you have to look at the light for a few months, but the system is a joke anyways due to the number of false alarms.

WARNING! ALL YOUR TIRES ARE AT 32 PSI EXCEPT THE ONE THAT IS ONLY 31.5!!! PULL OVER NOW OR PREPARE TO DIE!

Ahh...I understand now. LOL

I'd agree with you, the tire pressure monitoring is a joke. On my 2008 MCS there were way too many false alarms...especially in the real cold weather.

In Canada we have a different TPMS [FTM Flat Tire Monitor] based on revolutions, I think, no sensors.

I wonder if you can turn that on?

My local tire place charges something like $20 or $30 bucks to move the sensors over, if I recall correctly.

If it's much more then that, I will just ignore the warning.
