Limp Mode

Oh the joys of having my 2014 F56S for two weeks and already it having to be towed to the dealership twice. But I guess thats Mini life for ya. Well this all started last night when I was driving somewhat aggressively in sport mode. I probably gave it 60% power and the car shifted from 1st to 2nd and there was all this noise it was similar to the popping noise while in sport but at a faster pace and I hadn’t heard that many before while changing gears. Well low and behold the car goes from 2nd to 3rd and BANG!! It literally felt like I hit something or was driving and BMW SMG transmission car. But I knew it was something with the transmission seconds later, my Mini Connected screen is now a Christmas tree, a red note comes saying drivetrain failure and to pull over immediately and that it was in limp mode. I tried to pull off but I was on next to a curb and the car could literally not move. The car literally shut off, I pushed the gas and nothing happened. Now here I am looking like a fool stopped in the middle of that road trying to get my car to start. Now at this point i can’t remember if the car started up on the first or second try but eventually the car came back on and I babied it home with the check engine light on. Now of course I come out to the car in the morning and start it and the CEL is gone and I check the vehicle status and it says its all clear. Well I just had it towed over to the dealership and so far the issue seems to be with the TCU in which they said they’ll have to replace that and they are going to go through the car more thoroughly tomorrow. Wish me and my brand new Hunk o Junk luck.
/End of Rant

Forgot to mention that my car is also a automatic, yeah yeah I know I’m not a real man but I spend about 45 minutes a day looking for a parking spot on campus so not trying to have a massive left leg.

Wow. That's truly unfortunate. Hope they get the problem resolved quickly for you.

Yeah, that really sucks.. What if they don't find anything and call it a software update, and give that back to you? Something must have been seriously messed up, mechanically. I hope the dealer replicates the problem and replace the parts.

The same exact thing happened to me about two weeks ago. They took my car and I had it back the next day. A software update fixed the issue and my car has been working fine since. It was really scary when it jerked around like that and died though. I hope they can get yours fixed asap.

That's what I hope is the issue but I already had it towed to my dealership for the other drivetrain malfunction software issue last week. Did you have to 2 software updates or was this your only issue?

Did the ECU put the car into Park or something? Glad I have a standard transmission.

It's weird the car was still showing that it was in drive but the car would not move when I pushed the gas and it also didn't roll back and I was on a slight incline. So I have no clue what mode it went into. It turned the motor off itself then asked me to put the car in park before it would turn off accessory power.
