Hi all...

Fiona's exhaust is on its last legs - the cat is all banged to hell and the muffler canister is fugly and rusted. I'd like to take the opportunity to replace everything from the cat back, and hopefully have whoever does the installation lift the exhaust up back into the tunnel where it belongs (as it is, the pipe hangs down out of the exhaust tunnel a good 2-3 inches, which means I drag the cat all over the street any time I go over a speed bump or rut). Ouchies...

I was planning on using something like the Sportex MBBB9 (only $159 from GBCarparts before any link pipes) - I like the single port w/ rolled edge and the black canister, but it's out of stock.

QUESTIONS:

1. What have other people used to replace the stock exhaust on a 1275cc Mini? Did you like it? How did it hold up?
2. I'm assuming any muffler shop can install the new system in the center-mount position, yes? The stock exhaust is on the LH side...
3. Ideally, I'd like something that sounds a bit more aggressive, but that's not too buzzy on the highway - any suggestions?

Dash binnacle vent pods - Right and Left - $35

12x5 Minilights $200- painted black by the previous owner, but in great condition. Easily strip the paint and paint as you like or leave them black. They have tires mounted already. I can't vouch for the tires because I only drove about 50 miles on them and they've been sitting in the garage for almost a year now.
Wheel 1

High flow water pump. $25 Slightly used but has no issues. I received a brand new high flow water pump exactly the same and I put it on because it was shinier. haha. The pump worked PERFECTLY 3 months ago when I replaced it. If no one buys it I'll keep it just in case.
3 gauge Dash pod - $25. Assuming it's the part that came on the car OEM and previous owner removed it.

Hey Everyone,

Finally got around to posting some pictures of my new toy on here. Picked the car up last winter and completed the work on it during the summer while I was home from college. Let me know what you all think!

Currently looking for another classic mini project. A solid shell with no motor or subframes would be great. Please let me know if anyone know of anything out there. Thanks.

Howdy!

Im stationed in the UK and Im close to leaving but I would like to ship my Mini back to the US. The car is a 1982 so Im good as far as the FMVSS is concerned. But what about that 2.5% tax? If the tax is ridiculous then I might as just sell the Mini.

"Earlier this year we noticed the very negative atitude taken towards those who own Classic Minis fitted with Automatic Transmission and on many an occasion have seen people advised to convert their Beloved Automatic Minis to Manual Transmission rather than overhaul their perfectly good Automatic Transmission.

We realised that there was no specific resource for those of us that have Automatic Minis so we decided it would be a good idea to bring all those with Automatic Transmission Minis together to share Resources, experiences, information, hints and tips.

We also realised that the AP Automatic Transmission used in the Mini was also used in other BLMC models that were powered by the A Series engine so with this in mind we warmly welcome any owners or enthusiasts of such models

These Models include
Minki-I
"The thinking behind the replacement for the Mini started back in about 1992, while under the ownership of British Aerospace and called at that time The Rover Group.
So how was the name MINKI arrived at, simple, put a ‘K’ series engine into a Mini and you have MINKI.
At the time the general feeling was that because the design was then thirty three years old, technology had moved on so much, and with new legislation on emissions and crash testing etc., that it was best to start with a clean sheet."

The first part of the concept stage was to do an appraisal of the current Mini and see how improvements could be made.

1) Improve the powerunit, by installing the ‘K’ series engine with a 5- ---speed gearbox
2) Improve the suspension, by installing hydragas suspension.
3) Improve the driving position, by installing better seats, altering the ---rack of the steering column, and along with the fascia / controls
4) Improve its overall luggage capacity, by making it into a hatchback ----and altering the rear end package.

Minki-II
"1995 arrived, and so did BMW! They were surprised that we had such a strong brand of Mini, but no plans to do anything with it. Plans for a new Mini were required, and a ‘competition’ was set up, for later on in 1995, to decide on the route forward.
It was decided that a part of that event should be a vehicle that represented what current Mini could have become if investment and development had been put into the Mini over many years. This vehicle would then act as a better benchmark than a standard current Mini for judging what the new Mini needed to beat.
Fortunately, all of the old Minki-I stuff had just been scrapped off, so a Minki-II was hastily required! I say fortunately, because in comparison, the Minki-II project was a very grand affair! By this time, our senior management had seen BMW in operation, and were impressed by the way that they did everything properly, with very high quality prototype vehicles, excellent engineering, etc. Minki-II had to live up to this standard. Great! It was a proper project, with designers and even a few bought-out parts!"

(Minki-II can be seen on show at the Gaydon Motor Museum in UK)
