I just got an 09 JCW about 2 months ago. I have 2200 miles on it. This car is definitely a keeper so I am bothered by the 15000 mile first service. We reluctantly followed that advice on my wifes 05 MCS and it blows blue smoke when you start it up if it sits a week. Her car only has 50K miles on it. I am also bothered by the $100.00 stealer charge for a non scheduled oil change. I am thinking of doing it myself this time (probably every time midway through the cycle at 7500). I have some 5-30 mobil1 laying around, all I need is a filter. How do the two oils compare (will mobile1 last the same mileage as Mini oil) and is there any problem switching back and forth? That Mini oil looks suspiciously similar to BMW synthetic I used to get for $2.95 a quart at the stealer while Mobile 1 was $5.00 a quart and now they want how much ($90 for a case of 12):eek2:?

We have owned our Mini for almost a week. I am an old Chevy man and I will admit I do not know much about these cars. Can you lead me down the right path for a few of these questions. The car sat for some time, the first owner past away the wife traded it for a Honda.

We have a 2004 Mini S JCW with 40,000 miles, Manual
I would like to do an oil change, Plugs, air filter, maybe fuel filter, and wires.

What Spark plugs would you recommend ( not just brand but number)

What oil and filter

Is the fuel filter in the tank or in line?

The exhaust seems pretty loud for a 4banger, is that typical?

I have lots of questions but I will try to look most of them up. I know I need to get the JCW package number and learn more about it. I plan on going through the car this weekend and look for anything that needs replacement.

The parts guy at my local dealer (Seattle MINI) is stumped. Can you guys help?

I recently put a new air filter from Mini Madness in my JCW R53. In the process of removing the air box cover, the foam gasket on the back of the box basically disintegrated in my hands. I've been trying to order a replacement from Seattle MINI for a week now, but they can't seem to figure out what I need.

Attached is a photo. Anyone know what part # I need?

I've had my 05 JCW for a couple of months now and I expected mileage that perhaps wasn't the best as I got used to the car. (The sound of the SC is very addictive at first ) Now as I have settled in and my driving habits have normalized (usually shifting at 2250 rpm) I am still getting a calculated 18 MPG (OBC says 19.1). My car only has 26K on it and other than a cold start stumble that has just popped up in the last week the thing seems to run like a champ.

Is this something I should be concerned about or is this just a fact of life for an R53?
