Yesterday I listened to the new audio system on the Camden and I think is much better than the hi-fi. All speakers are h/k and the amplifier as well. Im hoping it would be an easy replacement of speakers/amp to upgrade it without rewiring. Has anyone looked into this?

Hi, I just got my 2010 JCW (photos to follow in a few days). I have the hands free smart phone option. And I have an Apple I phone 3G, I thought I read on this site and maybe the MINI USA site. That you could access you songs from the I phone and use the phone function from the cradle. However it does not show up on the radio like an I pod wood. I was at the dealer when we tried it yesterday. They thought it would work as well.

For some reason, the right and left channels are mixed for the front speaker channels. The rear signal is fine.

The Image Dynamics Q 450.4 amp has four input RCA jacks. I've made a cable that plugs into the X9331 connector with audio channels going to a 4 channel RCA cable, and the RCA cable connects to the Q 450.4. The other wires in the X9331 connector go to the half of the X9331 connector that connects to the HIFI amp.

Large Brown, Large White, Small Brown, and Brown/White are passed on to the HIFI amp. At least one of these is required, or the car wont start. I did notice that the ohm meter indicates the Small Brown and Large White are connected somewhere. No resistance between them. Don't recall about the others.

I know that the problem isn't with the Image Dynamics amp or speaker install because connecting the rear channel RCA plugs to the front channels on the Q 450.4 gives good channel separation.

Doesn't matter whether the front channel RCAs are plugged into the front or rear channels on the Q 450.4, they play both right and left channel signals in both right and left speakers. A test mp3 track that tests left, right, phase, and balance plays in both speakers. The out of phase test is barely audible.

Since the rear channel RCAs play correctly in eaither front or rear speakers, and the front channel RCAs play incorrectly in front or rear speakers, I assume the problem occurs before it gets to the Q 450.4 amp.

I've tested the cable from my X9331 plug to the RCA plugs with an ohm meter and it all seems to be correct. No polarity problems, no shorts from one channel to another.

I can't figure out what is going on. Anyone have any ideas about how to fix it?

So i opted to not get the HiFi system when i ordered by 09 MCS. My 07 had the HiFi and i thought i could do better for the money.

So with a budget $500 or less what would give me the biggest bang for my buck? I a comfortable doing all the work myself and i want to keep it close to stock looking as possible. Do i just replace the speakers in the doors and do the rear/front channel swap? Do I bite the bullet and swap out the rear 6x9s? What brand speakers?

Thanks All.

So, i see when people get head units on their mini, they typically put it in the secret compartment because you cant remove the stock one. BUT how about moving the stock unit into the secret compartment, and put the aftermarket head unit in place of the stock?

MUCH MUCH better than the HiFi system and even better than the original 1st gen Harmon Kardon systems. It reminds me of the old Digital Sound Module upgrade you used to be able to get.

If I had this I wouldn't be bothered with putting in an aftermarket system.

Sounds cool ( I want it), does anyone on here use something like this? I think there are a couple of sites that do this. this is the one I was looking at.

Today while at the dealer I was given the first copy out of the just received box a copy of "The MINI International Vol 32" (magazine)
In the Magazine was and add titled "The New MINI Hi-Fi System Alpine". It said to look at the add info page in the back of the magazine or Go to www.mini.com/accessories.

So from the back of the magazine:

Sounds great: the MINI Hi-Fi system by Alpine.
All the parts of the new Alpine hi-fi system were specially designed for teh MINI. The 3-way system consists of a class-D amplifier with a 2 x 100W output. Specially designed bass, mid-range and treble speakers have an aluminum speakers have an aluminum membrane for clear, transparent and detailed sound. What's more, the MINI Hi-Fi system is compatible with all iPod models.

Here is a link to the mini accessories page. But you will have to select the Music & Electronics Section in 3rd drop down list box on the left side and then select page 2 of the listing to get to the Alpine Hi-Fi System.

http://www.mini.com/com/en/car_accessories/index.jsp?content=http://accessories.mini.com/internet_relaunch/COM/en/indexNoFrameset.jsp

From the reading it sounds as if it might be a plug and play system for speakers, and amp.

I have not been able to get a part number for the upgrade but will be inquiring more tomorrow.
