I bought myself a pair of 8000k HID replacement bulbs for Xmas from

http://www.bimmian.com/MN

$129 shipped. Took about 1-hour to install them myself. Result is amazing! Check them out.

Wow, they actually look blue from the photo. I was expecting to be well into the purple range by 8k. To me, the stock 4300k have a noticeable blue tint to them. How do they perform on the road?

Actually, I have blue light films on my headlights so color is not just from the bulbs. They do look more blue than purple though. Road impression. Like having a pair of SUN!

yikes how much viewing ability did you lose? I have heard that once you get that high in the range you lose some ability to see in bad weather...just curious

8000k puts out less then the stock bulbs so only 75% of the sun

Color Temperature is a measurement in Degrees Kelvin that indicates the hue of a specific type of light source. Many people believe the misconception that color temperature is a rating of the brightness of the bulb or HID kit. This belief is completely false. The reality of the matter is that the higher the color temperature, the less useable light output you will obtain. A perfect example would be a black light. This light has a color temperature of approx 12,000k and has almost no useable light or lumens output. Higher K kits such as 7000k, 7500k, etc. have been manufactured for individuals that are more concerned about the actual color output of their lights as opposed to the actual useable light output they produce.

looks really cool though

I will post more pics later.

I knew the higher K myth but these bulbs are definitely brighter than stock. I have a Scion xB that came with a set of 10k HID bulbs installed by the previous owner. I never use the high beams when I'm driving the xB. Never. Whenever I go back to the MINI, specially driving places without street lights, I really started to miss what I have in the xB. I have to do more night driving to give you more impressions but I am really pleased with them so far.

Awesome....if its brighter sounds like a good call.

Although what i posted isnt a myth....its proven science not just in automobile headlights.

This came from what i posted earlier:
A white light has a perceived brightness which may equate to the higher stated efficacies-- ie., although an HID lamp might have equivilant lumens as a higher wattage halogen bulb, the HID will appear brighter and more pleasing to the eye than the output of a halogen lamp.

Did you install these higher temperature bulbs into the factory HID projector setup or did you put them into your factory halogen setup? If you put them into the halogen setup, is there alot of light dispersion?

I always wanted to upgrade my halogen headlights to an HID setup, but alot of people on NAM seem to feel that doing this would disrupt others on the road.

he put them into the xenon setup, you can sorta makeout the washer things in the pic. And he linked to replacement HID bulbs instead of a full system.

putting them in a halogen setup wont work

Now I have a problem. My high beams do not match at all! Are there any good bulbs out there for my high beams to match my new 8k HIDs? I don't want to blind people though.

Then why don't the high beams match up anyway? The blue tint should turn the highs blue as well.

Also, just so you know, your not only loosing light intensity from the 8000K bulbs but also from the blut tint you have on the lens...probably over 20% loss.

I know. the film was on before I got the new bulbs. Color is very light though. My high beam does not appear blue through the film thats why I need more blueish high beam to match.
